As hinted in this post and teased here I have designed a deep cut vertex turning puzzle! The Chopasaurus consists of 919 pieces and took almost a full month of development and heavy feedback from awesome people like Tomz, Eric, and Eitan. The puzzle works amazingly well considering the number of crazy layers. The turning is silky smooth however because of the number of directions a part can go, the puzzle can get really squishy and misaligned. however with a bit of gentle wiggling it can be sent in the proper direction with ease. Amazing puzzle Drew. I had no idea it could jumble!
So this is sort of like a Skewb Ultimate, but with cuts applied to more angles?

IT LIVES!I always wondered if this was even possible. Of course Drew would prove that it is. You should get a picture of it next to a Supernova and/or Chinaminx! BTW, Drew, can you pleeeease update your signature pic?

This thing has 10 deep cut planes in a single puzzle. That's the current record isn't it? The 48 Cube has 9. Anything I've missed? With 10 deep cut planes you can actually put a 2x2x2, a Skewb, and a Little Chop[24-Cube] all in one puzzle. It sure does make you wonder what's next... Carl

Wow That looks really cool. My only concern is how well it turns. After watching the video, I thought to myself "If the creator is having a hard time turning it, what am I gonna do?". Anyways, it does look like a great puzzle and congratulations to you!

Drew,
Did you, or is it even possible to, take a picture of the actual puzzle during the assembly process that matches the teaser picture you posted? Done in the right lighting and at a nice high resolution I think you could sell it as abstract art. It would also make a GREAT wall paper.
Just curious, Carl

I just now saw the teaser, and that's RIDICULOUS! It's more layers than the little chop! Why exactly does this puzzle require so many layers and so many more pieces than every other deep cut puzzle? Is there a specific problem with this puzzle that requires it to be so much more complex?

A 2x2x2 has 3 axi(?) of rotation yet it needs a fair amount of extra pieces to work. The 24 cube has 6 axi and needs 109 pieces. My cross cube/48 cube has 9 axi and the first version has over 400 pieces. This puzzle, has 10 axi making it the current record for deep cut puzzles. Every rotation on this puzzle moves 9 of the axi with every rotation.

Drewseph wrote: I have designed a deep cut vertex turning puzzle! Meh. Been done before. And then again. Nothing special Absolutely fantastic puzzle Drew!!!! I am truly impressed that you managed to make this work. A theoretical design for this isn't too terribly hard to come up with, but it takes a master to get the tolerances and stability just right! Simply incredible. This is the second most complicated 1st order (by my def), "pure" twisty puzzle possible. The third most complicated in the same series was the 24-Cube. That means there is only one natural puzzle left that I will consider this puzzle's superior in terms of design complexity. Until I see that puzzle exist in a fully operational state, the Chopasaurus will remain the king of all twisty puzzles in my book Peace, Matt Galla
