I am going to give a second try to making my own 1x2x3 using redkb's tutorial. However I do not have apoxie sculpt but I do have wood filler putty thingy. Does anybody know if that would work as a replacement to apoxie sculpt?

I put to much money into the first one that I failed on. I am NOT trying for a second time. I ordered a black one from shapeways (again). Good luck and I hope you can do it.

I think I'll try and go for it this upcoming labor day weekend. I have most of the tools I need. However, there is these tabs sticking out from the walls of the rubiks cube corner (on the inside). Anybody know how to get rid of them? They were a problem before. If I succeed I'll post pictures.

ok if the wood putty is the same as I have, then it cures not to a hard state. but more to a rubbery, flexable state.
I might be wrong about yours tho. there are deffinatly more than one variant out there.

But you should keep your patience, and order some correct material like Apoxie Sculpt, or Miliput. Greenstuff (found in GamesWorkshop) also works as a substitute

ive seen people use wood putty but it doesnt look good . i would use mighty putty or i have this loctite putty
i got from the glue section at a hardware store(but it smells terrible) .

I am going to paint over it so color doesn't matter. I just checked the brand. It's Elmer's Carpenter Wood Filler. Does anybody know anything bad about that?

I wouldn't use wood putty, for the same reasons doubleYou said.

You can get this stuff at most Home Depot stores, it's the best fast-drying filler I've ever used.

Wood putty is a no go. I used to fill cubes with it and it really isn't even suited for that. To be honest, go buy a $25 1x2x3 on Shapeways. That is the best you will get. (just make sure you buy it from the right person, as it seems every one has a 1x2x3 nowadays )

Thanks to Quirky-Cubes I am almost done. Quirky-Cubes, the filler you recommended is amazing I finished making the pieces. Know I just need to get a screw and nut that fits the hole I drilled and dye the puzzle since the Epoxy isn't black but tan. And does anybody know where I can get a paint that won't slow the movement of puzzle?
