Hi Twisty Puzzles fans, Big Boulder is a blatant case of twisty puzzle extremism. 1 spherical core, 60 centers, 140 edges and a whopping 150 corners. That is a lot of pieces. And to make it more complex, this puzzle jumbles too, which means that some moves may be blocked by other pieces. This puzzle is based on the geometry of a Pentagonal hexecontahedron, which is the dual of the snub dodecahedron, being the largest regular solid. If you would want to sticker this puzzle, notice that you would need 72 different colors and you would have over 800 faces to sticker. That is a bit much for me, so I decided to dye the puzzle in a nice pattern instead. Watch the YouTube video. Buy the puzzle from my Shapeways Shop. Read more at the Shapeways Forum. Check out the photos below. Enjoy! Oskar Attachment:

Holy crap, Oskar. XD It's not so much as "bandaged" as it is necessary for the geometry of the puzzle, I think.

That's a lot of pieces! In the end of the video of your crazy comet puzzle, you mentioned a jumbling puzzle with this geometry, and you also said it was very unlikely for you to make this puzzle because of the huge number of pieces. And you still did it! I hope you will complete the series of jumbleable puzzles with the dual of the snub cube. That would be an even BIGGER achievement!

I know that you didn't show it in the video, but can the pentagonal faces turn? That is one of your greatest achievements Oskar, and without a doubt the king of all jumbling puzzles!

This is crazy. I love snub cube/dodecahedron. Glad to see some puzzles based on them.

$400...hmmm. Not as bad as I thought! Looks incredibly challenging. Even more so since I can barely even solve a 3x3x3! Beautiful work from Oskar yet again!

Thank you all for the nice compliments. SaiyanKirby wrote: Some of the sides are bandaged. Not "bandaged", but " jumbled". A bandaged puzzle can be "unbandaged". This one cannot. Kapusta wrote: Can the pentagonal faces turn? No, for the same reason that the pentagonal face of Fairly Twisted cannot. However, with a little bit of fudging, like in Distorted Cube, it could be doable. Skarabajo wrote: How long did it take you to assemble? Including dyeing and sorting about five hours. It took about ten hours to design, given all the funny angles. Sjoerd wrote: I hope you will complete the series of jumbleable puzzles with the dual of the snub cube. That would not complete the series, as there are more jumbling concepts out there. Anyway, would you be interested in sporsoring this? Oskar

I go away camping over the weekend, and come back to this... I saw it on Shapeways, but didn't see the video until just now Abolutely amazing! It's based upon the geometries of the Pentagonal hexecontahedron. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagonal_hexecontahedron So I guess the reason for not having the pentagonal faces rotatable is because it is the dual of the snub dodecahedron, and in the pentagonal hexecontahedron have pointy tips five to a vertex. At least one good thing about it is there are no orientations of parts to worry about, and thus no fancy algorithms to manipulate around, so solving should be fairly intuitive. This is a great puzzle and I will love to own at some point. Oh, and btw it Jumbles too!
