A lady at the Exploritorium in San Francisco called me today and asked if I would do a news spot tomorrow for the upcoming tournament there. I'm really not the fastest around here, just the only speedcuber they could get ahold of. They also want me in the studio on the morning before the tournament so I'd have to commute 30 minutes. I'll try my best but I wish they could get ahold of Mr. Lars Petrus who lives right down the way. He's far more impressive to watch than I am.
In the bay area it's on NBC 11 at 10:00 am or so on Wednesday if you wanna see.

I hope you will somehow record the TV spot and convert it to a downloadable clip. I think many of us without access would enjoy seeing what you have to say or to see you speedcube on TV. Best of luck!

Don't underestimate yourself. I would say over 99% of the population can't solve one, so the fact that you can solve it in any length of time will wow a number of people.
I takes me a good 3 minutes to solve the cube and everyone is amazed way more than they should be.

p.s.
if anyone is able to tape it and digitize it, that would be so cool

Dude, video it, compress it and host it somewhere when it's done.

Don't you know this increases the pressure and most people get horrible times when others are watching?
Have fun, Mike!

I was on for like 5 minutes, so the video size is giant.
I can't host it on my geocities page because it's a little too big, plus you guys would just laugh at me.
They showed some stock footage of speedcubers and DavidJ was on for a second.
After I was done a little girl asked for my autograph and I couldn't believe it. I told her "you don't want my autograph" but she insisted.

BTW: 2 slow solves in the 40's, it was hard for me to concetrate fully.

How funny - I don't have any footage of me solving.
I think that people will still appreciate a 40+ second solve, and not laugh.
I look forward to seeing the footage sometime.

I have a 90 second clip shrunk down to 1.2 megs and no place to post it. Is 1.2 megs too many to post here Sandy?

1.2 megs is no problem. The forum should allow you to upload most of the common formats. If it doesn't work, just let me know what error message you get, and I'll make sure to tweak the settings as required.

You really don't want to watch me solve a cube, those solves were especially slow 40 somethings.
I'm far more impressive at Pyramorphix. My solution page is in the works and Sandy graciously offered to post it on the twistypuzzles.com solutions page! I'll keep you all posted, however I don't think I'll be the world champ for long as I plan on teaching Macky my method tomorrow at the S.F. Exploritorium Tournament.

BTW that shirt is a custom built "twist one up" gift from my girlfriend.

Nice video, though I have to say I don't like the guy who interviewed you. Man, can't he let you answer? I hate it when media people keep talking and interrupting all the time, trying to say everything and just have you say "yes". Plus, a guy memorizing for blindfold in 10 secs? Yeah right. He should've done better research.

Thank you everybody for your positive comments. I guess bay area tv can't get enough of me because I was on a different channel this morning with Macky, Sunil and Toby Mao. However Macky was the star today and rightfully so. Today at the tourney Macky juggled 2 pocket cubes with his right hand and one handed solved a regular cube in his left hand! He is truly amazing and such a nice kid to boot.

_pink, it's windows media. Are you running a Mac?
I was another show tonight, a sports show. It was taped and comes on at 11 on KRON 4 tonight. I'm really not deserving of this much publicity but they invited me so I went. I'll do whatever to expose our great sport.

It's strange because if I load this thread at home on a winMe machine using dial-up, a windows media file window opens for your attachment and I can play the wmv file.
If I load the thread at work on my win2000 machine through a firewall, nothing happens and the attachment just comes up as your title with no activated link.
Maybe _pink's having a similar problem?

I can open it from home and from work through a firewall no problem.
I'm on Win XP.

After looking at the html source of this page, I think forum software recognises the file type and is wrapping it into some kind of activeX control. I gleaned the direct url, so try try downloading it directly from this link:

I'm not sure but a different browser might help. I would recommend Firefox.

I find on my win2000 machine w/firewall if I try and run wmv files straight in the browser I get garbage text too. But if I save the file to disk first and use that it then runs fine in Media Player. You could try that.

ok, well it plays fine at work on IE so I'm guessing that Netscape might not contain the proper drivers... I love the shirt... might be my next project...
thanks for the vid!

Hi _pink, major bodger,
If I click on a link and get "garbage," I open Windows Media Player and enter link into "Open URL" in the drop down menu under "File."

I find this really funny, since I have no problems watching the video,
on my Mac., in fact it loads directly in the forum, so simple !!!
... but i felted like a real jerk when i annonced the new 6x6x6
video, and I couldn`t see anything !
Anything cube related is good for exposure, the more people that "re-discover" the cube the better.
The next time someone get's interviewed, maybe it would be a good time to show off the Dogic, and get the ball turning, a apart from us, pratically
nobody knows abut this puzzle, maybe this could be our way of "paying-back" Uwe for his dedication in bringing back the Dogic !
Michael
