Hi Twisty Puzzle fans, YouCube is a new twisty puzzle, that has not only a hole in the middle like Void Cube, but it has a complete gap at a side all the way through to the center. The puzzle looks like the letter "U", hence its name. The whole puzzle is held together by sliding dovetail connections. That works very well for this puzzle. Watch the YouTube Clip. But the puzzle at my Shapeways Shop. Read more at the Shapeways Forum. Check out the photos below. Enjoy! Oskar Attachment:

Wow. Can all of the middle bits (the blocks of 4) rotate if the U is turned?

Wow. Thats crazy. You are the master at creating weird and unusual cubes. I shouldn't even call it a cube

Cool! I love how it is still able to do most turns even when the U is turned. This does this puzzle also count as C and N cubes? And did the H-cube also count as I-cube? If so, you have now created the C, H, I, N (n is a better description actually) and U. An 'easy' next one would be the O-cube.

But seeing one in this style (And if both Sjoerd and I haven't just completely forgotten/missed it) would be fantastic

I wonder what this would be like dodecahedral. Possibly with two gaps like a W.

The YouCube is a void bandaged puzzle, so it doesn't jumble, but the voiding is very novel and extreme.
I believe Oskar's source of inspiration for his last batch of puzzles has been thinking about twisties whose axes of rotation don't all intersect at a single point. He asked me about such beasts previously, and I said I didn't know of any other than the Dual Circle, but clearly there are more.

I love the way it turns across the gap. I'm surprised how stable it looks during that turn. I expected the rails not to line up well for that, but they did perfectly.

Awesome! Your puzzles are always incredible.
I asked this in the comments, but I might as well ask here, too: Do the full vertical arms of the U turn as well? I guess you would have showed it in the video if they did, but I just wanted to be sure.

Neat idea. I wonder if that (or a variation) would allow the creation of a 3D analog of a 4D puzzle like a 2x2x2x2. Without thinking too much about it, the "faces" could be disconnected 3D twisty puzzles and 4D turns would be performed by bringing the separate parts together in different orientations.

Very true, that could open the way to higher dimensions too. The unique characteristics of the YouCube puzzle may already be enough to make some modified pieces for a 4D version. Of course, this is not the only way to make a 4D puzzle, but that is another story. Pantazis

I have one question about this puzzle: If you do a rotation of the front/back, wouldn't it be possible to just rotate one of the middle 'edge' pieces off the puzzle, and thereby disassemble it?

Oskar is smarter than having a flaw like that.

Your question is: when you have the "U" turned at 90 or 180 deg, can you then remove the two little cubies that are at the opening of the "U", correct? The answer is "no", as the cubies are internally wider than one unit, so that move is blocked at both sides of the cubie. Oskar

There are three types of roations: sides, cubies and the big "U-turn". Oskar
