Shown here is the Jewel 45 that I have been working on for some months. It is a 45 degree face turning puzzle related to the Magic Jewel.
It started life as a design exploring the possibility of a 45 degree turning Rubik's Cube and slowly evolved to become this design. How ironic that Oscar's Mix Cube should appear recently.
It is still a work in progress, and I have to confess that the movement is nothing short of terrible. It will require a lot of time to refine it. But rather than hold the design back for another few weeks, I decided to show it.
The screws are just temporary placeholders for working and testing. Big thanks to Bradley for the printing.

Thats nice puzzle:D Is this a full print? I would like to see a video of its movement if possible. Good luck on refining this.

Just a single master of each part (4 parts), FDM print, cleaned and sanded with milliput. Won't be any video I'm sorry until it actually works nicely, and has stickers.

Sorry, I can't quite visualize how this puzzle will look once completed or how it turns. Can anyone fill me in?

It probably isn't very clear. Here's one of the mid-turn renders from the design:

Looks pretty cool. Are there going to be some kind of caps over the screw heads?

are you going to sticker the centers with colors of the correct edge pentagons to make it harder? Also, assuming that the pentagons weren't concave (or is it convex?) what geometric shape would the puzzle be? EDIT: Screw me, now that I look more closely some colors are already permanently in one place. So never mind the first comment. How are you going to sticker the octagons?

Do you mean to cover the screw holes once I replace the test screws with shorter screws? Probably cover them with a solid octagonal sticker at this stage. But I'm not totally sure just yet.
