Yes, I have heard of such a thing. It's called a Knock-Off Floppy Cube. The legit ones are made of black plastic and have smooth stickers.

I have one and all I can tell is that the quality and the finish is near nought. I think I am in a position to tell, having an original made by Okamoto as well as several Gentosha originals.

Kevster11 wrote: it looks like the center bending was eliminated with the turns That's impossible. The centres have to bend in order for the puzzle to function. Also, AFAIK Meffert's sells the originals for $16 with free shipping. Better than $21.75 and better quality than $6

Maybe it uses a smaller version of the center bending covered up by an outer cubie shell.

If you aren't comfortable stealing objects, I bet you might be able to pay a friend less than six bucks to steal one for you. If you aren't comfortable buying stolen property, perhaps you can buy something made by a company that didn't steal the puzzle, but stole the puzzle design from Mr. Okamoto. Or you could mow a lawn and buy the real thing, and be happy knowing you aren't stealing or paying someone who has stolen. *And* get a top quality puzzle. Whatever. Dave P.S. You wouldn't be the first to buy a knock off, lured in by a cheap price. I have a number of fake ES keychain 2x2x2s from Deal Extreme for that very reason. In hindsight I should have figured a price that low would mean it was a fake. My point here is not to give you a hard time for buying it, but to challenge the "whatever" part. Once you know the ramifications of your purchase, how you act in the future is the ethical question. I hope this information is helpful in that regard.

When I found out about KOs I stopped buying them right away. As a beginning cuber, it is EXTREMELY misleading. I just simply wish all KO's would be fund illegal and removed from sites such as ebay. It is a horrible thing and so misleading.

I would believe him if he said he hasn't. And watching TV online isn't illegal. http://www.Hulu.com is a great legal TV/Movie viewing site. And... Most people don't think this is funny.

I thanks those of you who don't liek knockoffs. I regret it everytime I buy one, but I have money, I just need it for more things, other than puzzles. I hope to buy originals of all my KO's eventually, especially the V-Cubes. But I feel it is worth the down in quality, if you need the cheap price. But expect the scold of this forum. Noone here who speaks *LOVES* KO's. Also, intend to buy the original eventually, because it will be worth it.
Now, on to my rant of your morals.
The original Rubik's cube once upon a time HAD A PATENT, contrary to belief that it never did. When it's patent expired, more companies began making cubes. People HERE bought these cubes and justified there theivry because the pantent had expired.
Now to the Present:
The Gigaminx, or royal Skewb or the Ghost Cube, NEVER had a patent. However if a cube today was to be made without the consent of the patentless creator, they would be scourn.
WHAT IS THE BLOODY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUYING A KO RUBIK'S CUBE AND A KO GHOST CUBE??? END YOUR MORAL FORCES BECAUSE NOONE HERE CAN SAY THEY HAVEN'T BOUGHT A KNOCK OFF RUBIK'S CUBE, EVEN A DIY, EVEN ONE WITH A DIFFERENT MECH LIKE TYPE A, WOULD HAVE INFRINGED ON THE RUBIK'S PATENT, AND THE KO'S OF CUSTOM PUZZLES DON'T EVEN DO THAT. JUST BECAUSE A CREATOR HASN'T BECOME WELL KNOWN SHOULDN'T MAKE THERE PUZZLE AUTOMATICALLY ANYMORE MORALLY UNCOPIABLE THAN THE RUBIK'S CUBE!!!
I think I am done...

Guys, perhaps it is time to move the discussion to this thread. By the way, I have not downloaded music I didn't purchase. But that isn't the point, and I have violated proper use of content in other ways so I am not claiming perfection. Read the above linked thread for details (particularly the end of this post) and a much more in depth discussion on the matter. Dave

Blazemann, Cool it. Seriosuly- You get way too heated on this subject. Something I wouldn't expect considering your username, actually.
And to your caps locked paragraph, The Rubik's cube patent has expired. Therefore- it isn't illegal. And most purchased are not a disrespect to the owner- because they are better then what Seventowns markets.
The wright brothers invented the plane (Something everyone who flies should have immense graitude for) , but we fly in jets because they are much better. If that makes sense.

I'll agree with Reeeech here, let's get it out of this thread. I suggested one above. Although his presentation leaves something to be desired, there is an interesting argument to be made regarding the ethics of copying products that have had their exclusive time via the patent process vs. those that did not. Let's have that discussion (minus the negative parts) in the proper place. I'll start. Dave
