The Berkeley Summer competition is coming up in just over a week on the Berkeley campus. I'll be there and will bring a selected set of my puzzles. I'm not advertising for a dedicated meet up here (I will be competing) but with a number of people around for the competition it makes sense to hold an informal get together. Drop on by and say Hi. Post if you are going to attend so we know who to look out for. I'm guessing I can convince Aleh, Jason and Bram to drop by so there will likely be some good stuff to see. Cubicle: No need for high speed rail for this one, I expect to see you Dave

I should be able to come, I just need to secure a ride.
What time will the board members meet?
And what will you be competing in, Dave? I was considering entering for the Pyraminx, but I am not sure.

I'll be there. I have no idea what puzzles to bring though because I don't really have much that's rare. But luckily other people do! I look forward to meeting more TP members there.

I'm not sure if I can make this one, but I will try! If I do I will compete in 3x3.

Check a Map, it is pretty much a direct walk up Center and up the main road through campus. Cubicle wrote: What time will the board members meet? I will probably be there most of the day, starting early (non-standard events start early). But show up when you want. My guess would be that your best bet of meeting other puzzlers is lunch and after. Cubicle wrote: And what will you be competing in, Dave? Could someone bring an extra megaminx if you have one? All I have is a chinaminx, which is pretty horrible. Actually, I also have a pro-minx, but I haven't taken the time to do much with it yet. I've assembled it, but right now it turns pretty poorly. This is probably because I haven't sanded the pieces at all (just taken off the flashing by hand) and I didn't put the springs in. I may be able to get it in shape by the competition, but just in case I don't, I'd really appreciate it if someone would bring an extra. Thanks.

Any other requests while we are on the topic? I don't know if I will have my Pro-Minx ready either, it is only half cleaned up. I'll bring it either way. It moves well even only half cleaned up, but I don't want to sticker it until it is completely ready. Dave

Looks like I missed registration, so I guess I am not competing. But when should I 'arrive' ? As in, when are the most makers/modders going to be there?

You can still compete in 3x3 speed without pre-registering. As for the time, I wouldn't have the slightest idea. I'll be there around 9, but the only non-common puzzle I have is a pro-minx which still needs a lot of work.

I'll be there by 10 I think (I'll try to be earlier), I would like to catch 5x5x5 and Megaminx. I'll be staying until at least 2:00pm I think I would like to catch the 4x4x4 if I can but I can't stay until the end.

Here are a few picts I took from the competition. I saw Danny, Clubicle and Bram and met a forum reader (but not member, we'll have to correct that...) named Evan. He had a few nice puzzles: I brought a few of my puzzles to show as well: I also brought one not-before-shown puzzle, my new Elemental:Fluorine prototype (on the right): The Neon on the left is a Deluxe with alternating layers of red and green fluorescent. The Fluorine looks really interesting. I had wanted to make it, but my brother was visiting from out of town, and we had to help him get ready for his wedding. Next time.

Yeah, it was a good competition/meet up. As Dave said, I met him and Bram and Evan, although I don't think I ever ran into Cubicle. Dave's pictures show pretty much all the custom puzzles that were there. There were also a couple pro-minxes and Bram had a few interesting puzzles. Overall, it was pretty fun.
