Logging in to the CM was broken for a day or two, it's fixed now. I broke it as I was reworking the website security for the puzzle database maintenance/moderation code. (BTW, I received a dozen or so e-mails from people informing me of this, but only the last one actually contained an explanation of what was going on [thanks Fractangle!]. The rest of them were useless, and looked like spambot stuff, so I ignored them. Don't bother submitting one of those error forms if you haven't taken the time to fill in a field or two.) The login system of the collection manager is about to be retired. Collectors will be able to log into to the collection manager using their forum accounts. There are currently 307 collections in the collection manager. Of those, I can match 128 of them reliably to forum accounts using the e-mail addresses in both systems, or 105 of them less reliably using the user names in both systems for a cumulative total of 159, leaving 148 unmatchable and an additional 31 poorly matched. Anyway, here is the list of the poorly or unmatched collection manager accounts. Please reply here if one of them is yours to help me match the rest up. When the conversion happens, unmatched accounts will be orphaned and possibly deleted. Oh, and I realize that many have created more than one collection manager account because of the "one collection per account limitation". I suppose I'll have to resolve this limitation before converting to the new login system completely.

Georges Helm is me, but the data seem strange. In your list it says (item count) Georges Helm 151 148 but in the members collection list it says Georges Helm 418 419 The cid is 66 both times

Thanks for pointing that out, Georges. I'm just guessing, but it looks like I must have sorted only some of the columns in Excel. I've removed the fields from the above list to avoid confusion (and to save me the time of doing it again!).

I only had the collection before... After seeing this thread, I signed up for a forum account.
wwwebb is the username in both.

I know someone from that list. She has a collection, but is not a user of the forum.
Another friend of mine would also like to put up her collection but not post in the forum.
Will that not be possible anymore? Or will they have to sign up for the forum in order to only show their collections?
Thanks, Celia

Excellent question. That might explain the lack of response to this topic. Honestly, I've never considered the possibility that there were non-forum members in the members collections list!
I can see a way of easily shifting my plan to accomodate non-forum collectors, so no worries.

That's kind of funny (please don't take this in a bad way) to me, as at one point I had thought that one must have a collection to register an account on the forum! Also, I want to give you a big thank-you, as I know you've done so much work to keep this site up and running. I know that so often people, including myself, forget how much goes on behind the scenes, and take it for granted, but I think it's important to recognize the effort you put into this. Thank you.

Any others?
I'm almost done merging the CM login with the forum logins, and I'll be compiling the final mapping of CM to forum accounts within the next week. CM accounts not mapped to forum accounts will be converted into new forum accounts which will be linked back to their collection. An e-mail will be sent to the non-mappable CM account people informing them of the change and welcoming them to the forum. This will cause an artificial spike of about 140 members in the forum, and may kick off a wave of new forum participants.
CM accounts that can be mapped to forum accounts will also be e-mailed informing them about the change since the CM login method will change from using the e-mail address to the forum account name.
I'm really looking forward to getting rid of that old "security" system. Insert irony emoticon here.

New collection manager installed, along with a host of minor updates to all kinds of other things. CM logins are now the same as your forum logins. Use your forum name and forum password to login to the CM, not your e-mail address and CM password as before. Those CM accounts that could be matched to forum accounts were linked up. Of those left over, any "collection" that had 0 items was deleted. The remaining 89 CM accounts were converted into active forum accounts, and linked to their collections.
If anyone noticed the CM downtime (I uploaded all my changes and busted it!), I blame the recent hardware troubles. I had written a database update script, ran it offline for all my testing, lost it with the hard drive fiasco, and forgot all about it until I started getting errors after uploading all my changes.
If you used the CM before, try logging in to your collection now. Let me know if you find anything that appears broken.
This conversion took a lot of steps. Getting rid of that poor-man's security system was a big step for the site. I'm happy. I'm also tired.

The CM works well for me. One question though:
When I'm logged in to my collection I'm not also logged in here. Meaning: I went to the CM page, logged in, then went to the forum page from there and wasn't logged in even though I hadn't logged out on the CM page. Is that intentional?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. I wouldn't call it "intentional", it's merely the current behaviour. My intention is to create a fully integrated solution, where logging into one logs you into both. The new code is set up to extend in that direction when I'm ready to do so, but I haven't yet. My primary goal of eliminating the gaping security holes in my old system have been reached, and I feel drawn to moving on to other features for the time being.
Excuse the continued inconvenience of the double login and enjoy the new convenience of the single username/password pair, and I'll enjoy the greater sense of security! There are just a few more known holes in the security, which I hope to be clearing up in the coming weeks.
