I've been finished with this for a while but I wanted to take some decent pics of it and some video since I'll probably sell it. I'm quite pleased with the quality, the puzzle turns exceptionally well and it looks great in person. It was a super satisfying first experience, I learned a lot and I feel confident now in my building abilities.

Thanks to everyone who have answered all my noob questions.

That is one of the most cleanly built half truncated cubes I've ever seen.

The force is strong in this one. Things are proceeding as I have forseen.

Wow. A fine job. What did you use to cut, and what to fill?

I used a Dremel Stylus to cut/grind and Apoxie Sculpt to fill.

If I can offer one small tip...

You should consider rounding the sticker corners for future builds. It's not that pointed corners look bad, but the contrast between pointed and rounded corners somewhat takes away from the illusion that this could have been a factory made puzzle.

For sure. That was my original plan but after a ton of trial and error, I wasn't satisfied with the consistency of doing it by hand, so I had a sign shop cut them out and of course they forgot the part where I told them to round the corners. I'll end up with a stika before I'm through if I continue to enjoy building, which I'm sure I will.

how did you approach getting the sign shop to cut the stickers for you?

I went to two places, the first place failed miserably to cut them clean, but they were used to cutting heat transfer vinyl but they wanted something different to do and liked the idea. The second place was a real sign shop. I simply went in with a corner piece and told them what I wanted done, they thought it was pretty cool and told me they are used to doing small jobs for people and I'd have to at least get the shop minimum. Which turned out to be $21, but I now have enough triangle pieces to do 50 of these puzzles. The worst thing was the shop forgot to round the corners, but now I have a relationship with them and I think the next time I need their help, we'll get it right.

Amazing quality, even if it wasn't a first build.

This is actually a huge compliment in disguise! From a builder of Jin H Kim's experience, that a hand-made puzzle looks factory made.

Good Job!

Right now I'm doing a 3x3x2 using Fisher's cuboid method. I've always been attracted to that puzzle and I got a great deal locally on some rubik's cube keychains after showing the shop owner that first build. I have some other more original ideas I want to start on but since I'm still super new to all this I want to hone my skills a bit more.

That looks a lot better than my first mod, my first mod broke when I turned it the first time. :(

Very Very good and especially good for a first mod.

You can go ahead and say it. That puzzle sucked.

I've still gotta post a video of my new one.

He edited his post to say he accidentally posted in the wrong thread, and since the thread had already been bumped justin just commented. Please, leave the moderating to the moderators.

However, yes, i agree that this half-truncated is great, especially for a first build.

This does present an opportunity to mention that you can delete a post if no one has posted after you. So if you can, instead of editing try deleting.

If someone posts after you, you may even be able to PM them and get them to delete theirs, at which point you can delete yours. We once tested this and created, then deleted an entire thread with multiple posts this way. Of course, I can't link to that thread as it has been deleted ;), but I can link here to the discussion that started the test.
