Since the last DCD, I´ve had a lot of new puzzles with new mechanisms and such. If I wanted to know how some worked, I had to ask in another topic, or create one for it. So I´m starting this topic, where people can just post a quick question, and people who want to answer just quote the question and give an answer.
The questions can be for every kind of problem, like questions about where to find a puzzle, what filler to use, eBay strategy tips, algorithms for a move, the best puzzle brand in its kind, and any question you can think of ! But not too big questions, or asking for someones opinion about a new build they did.
I hope this topic will be able to help out some people.

I have one of these and some more rubik brand, but this is the only one I don´t know from what year it is.

This probably belongs in the Puzzle Building & Modding Forum, but I didn't see the need to create a new thread. I am currently planning a mod with a skewb. It is a hexagonal dipyramid. I was wondering if this was possible. Any thoughts?

No dont think so. The cut on the center of the skewb would be to deep, so you have to modifie internalpieces.
But nice idea:D

Unfortunately, that is also what I thought. You would end up bandaging the centers together when you filled the pieces. Oh well, leaves me with something else to use the skewb for.

I disagree.
Skewbs are pure deepcut puzzles and therefore any convex shape-mod is possible.
This is related to the principle that allowed Tony Fisher to build his "medium" sized container. If the skewb can't be cut into, just expand it out instead, it will always be possible.

The transparant plastic couting was peeling so I pulled it off, but now the picture is really bad, you can bearly see it. The description I gave isn't too hard is it? the picture from your website was the most similar one I could find on the web. I don't have the cube at hand at the moment too.

Are the angles of a face of a rhombic dodecahedron (rhombi): 60 degrees opposite to 60 degrees and 120 degrees opposite to 120 degrees? I looked it up on wikipedia and it said the longest diagonal is the double of the shortest, but I want to know the angles.

those are weird numbers. I thought: when the diagonals divide the rhombi in 4 equal triangles, the two sides of a triangle attached to the 90 degrees angle where like 1:2. That made me think about the 30 degrees-60 degrees-90 degrees triangle in which the side opposite to the 90 degrees angle is 2, which is two times the length of the side opposite to the 30 degrees angle, which then is 1, and the length of the side opposite to the 60 degrees corner is ?3. but I messed up the numbers, and it turns out it wasn´t a 30 degrees-60 degrees-90 degrees triangle at all...

Who was the first one to invent a 5x5x5 mechanism? Rubik´s or Mefferts?
And another one:
With an overlapping cube (4x4 with 5x5 centers), the middle layer, which is hidden in the 4x4 cube but partially brought outside in the 5x5 center, doesn´t twist independently. This is because of the block that´s on the 4x4 spindle. What happens when you cut away the block? that way you should be able to turn the partially visible middle layer, right?

Short answer: a puzzle which has cuts that cut the puzzle in half or a puzzle in which all the cuts meet at a single point
