As you can see by the pictures, a lot of them are messed up. My daughter who is now almost 7 has great fun "mucking up" mom's puzzles. But that's fine by me. It gives her the opportunity to get interested in them. She has a nice little collection of her own now that she keeps in "unmucked" shape. She hates them not being perfect.

I was just scrolling through this page to get to the last post and my husband was looking over my shoulder. He was joking about someone being crazier than I am (he saw the pictures on the post above). Then he leaned in closer and realized that IS my collection. I could hear this very gutteral groan. The next thing he did was grab the mouse and start navigating the photos. Now, I've listened to him complain about my collection over the years and at other times I've watched him become enthused about it (like when he took apart a 3x3x3 and made a mold to make an aluminum cube, or when I let him play with my dogic when it came in, and the same with the v-cube 7x7x7) Well, as he was scrolling through, he realized that this isn't the full collection. He started asking where certain puzzles were-tiled 5x5x5, virus (that insect thing) and a few others. His next thought was, do you want me to help you make a web page? Husbands! I'll never understand them. Complaining one minute, having fun the next. Would one of you gentlemen like to explain this to me?
And on another note, where did you get all those pucks. I've been trying to get one of those for years and was finaly able to make a trade for one.

Thanks all for nice comments regarding my collection. My Puck Puzzles collection is bigger then I could display. Some items are hidden in the back rows. I also had a question about the puzzle behind the baby shepherd's cube 1x1x1: it's my "pillow skewb". Just a skewb diamond with two tops chopped off. Here is a picture! Vadim

After coming back from Europe, I made a major tidying up...! Here is my website (this time without the heavy first page filled in thumbs!): http://www.houlis.comI spent a lot of time thinking of how to categorise my puzzles. In the end, I came up with: 1. Platonic Shapes, Derivatives, & Figures. 2. Spherical & Rotational. 3. Sliding With or Without Empty Parts. 4. Matching & Rearranging (2D & 3D). 5. Folding. 6. Interlocking & Take Apart (Wooden, Metal, & Other Materials). 7. Labyrinths & Dexterity. 8. Other Puzzles. 9. Books & Discs. 10. Puzzle related items which are not puzzles. And this list seems to work extremely efficient for me. Pantazis

Really nice work on the site Pantazis! I know how much work it is to put up a website. I had the same dilemma that you had, how to catogarize the puzzles, since I am pretty new in the puzzle world I went with the "Who have produced the puzzle" category and I dont have so many puzzles so it was pretty neat I really like your collection Pantazis! You have so many magics! Since I love ancient history from south europe, my favorite puzzle was the Magic Box (Color), that was Εξαιρετικός !!!! (I really hope this word means what I think) Alex

May I ask for how long have you been collecting puzzles? Pantazis I got my first 3x3 when they originally hit the market in the States. I fiddled for about 7or 8 years while I was still at school and uni, then life got in the way for while. I got back into colllecting when we moved to Hong Kong in 1994. My little collection has developed a mind of its own since then and just seems to reproduce itself. I have a few friends who travel a bit and I always get new puzzles when holidays are over for them. Mostly wooden ones though. Very recently my husband introduced me to a co-worker who used to own a toy manufacturing company here in the late 70's early 80's. He's allowing me access to his warehouse at the end of the month and has told me I can have any old stock puzzles I want. I'm dreaming of coming across one of those much written about threads of a case of lost "dinosaur's". Wouldn't that be a dream! On a different note, those Picassa pages I put up have helped my reputation greatly. My husband is a computer nerd (I know, why doesn't he make a page for me? Good question!) as are most of our friends. English teacher's here in Hong Kong have a reputation of being backpackers who can't do anything else (although some of us have studied a very long time and have lots of little golden seals to prove otherwise). Hence most people think my brain is addled at best, empty at worst. When the dear man shows them my puzzles, they become awed and I gain a bit more respect. Can you just imagine what would happen to their opinion of me if I could put together a page like yours, or some of the other lovely ones I've seen on here? I suppose I should have posted this somewhere else, but I'm still trying to work out that SPSS thing and am just too lazy to search for a proper place to put this. By the way, if you are in the mood to sell a Mr. and Mrs. Magic, please pm me a price. My daughter is driving me batty with "When are you going to make me one mom?"

Thanks Celia, Alex, and sharpyman69. I hope the site can provide some nice information. I do know that some of the puzzles are hard to find, and sometimes I make some "spotlights" or videos to ensure that many people can get some idea of how they work. katsmom wrote: I'm currently attempting a course on webpage building. Oscar Actually, you are right, as I had at least three more friends advising me to do this. With the surface-mail boxes arriving soon (in a couple of weeks I hope) from Prague, I should really start thinking of how to do this too. Most certainly, I will place the thumbnails of the newly acquired puzzles in the front page. In the meatime, I have finished with the themes for a couple of new magic designs, but their realisation has been delayed due to extremely busy schedule. The first one is a 4- tile magic with *more* than eight solutions LOL. The other one, is a 12-tile magic whose mechanism is different to all the known ones, and which can also lay flat (many thanks to my theory!). Pantazis

Due to the not very large variety of non flat 4 tile shapes (unless it is a 1 x 4) I am very interested to see what you did.

More specifically (using appoximation): flea market 1% my own designs 6%, ebay 48%, trades 34%, and shops 11% Pantazis

Hi everyone, I have been collecting puzzles for 5 months now, so I thought it would be nice to gather my puzzles for their first family picture. As you can see there are several duplicates, and all the puzzles in the row on the very left (from the green 3x3 to the Rubik's magic jigsaw) are available for trade (PM me if you are interested). Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to my collection so far. Now if I could only find someone who would sell me a skewb diamond, a Smart Alex, Rubik's rabbits and a 3-layers puck, I would be a very happy girl And I really hope that I will be able to add a Christoph's magic jewel to my collection one day, so if anybody should be considering selling theirs, please let me know.

Some of these collections just shame my humble one: (Megaminx is broken...i accidentally dropped it and broke 3 center arms. Will fix them soon, i hope) It will be growing soon. I have a black magic and black master magic coming in the mail, and i have a fisher cube i've been slowly working on in the workshop. Plus i have quite a list of puzzles i want to purchase at some point in the future when i'm not trying to save up money for Rock Band 2, et cetera. And Klara: That dogic for sale is really tempting! I'd like to make an offer, but right now i don't have the funds to offer a reasonable price, unfortunately . -CC10

Did you got some puzzles from DieterGebhardts collection? Where are the pieces left over from the BallInSphere-puzzle? Greetings Andreas

Klara wrote: Hi everyone, I have been collecting puzzles for 5 months now, so I thought it would be nice to gather my puzzles for their first family picture. You gathered all of those puzzles in 5 MONTHS? Very impressive.

But I hope you will be able to get a dogic some day. Andreas Nortmann wrote: Where did you get the Icosahedron from? Did you got some puzzles from DieterGebhardts collection? I don't know if it would be proper to post the name of the seller here, but I can PM you the details if you are interested. And yes, I got a couple of puzzles from Dieter Gebhardt's collection The BallInSphere came with some other puzzles I ordered, so the left over pieces are not in my possession. merlintocs wrote: You gathered all of those puzzles in 5 MONTHS? Very impressive. Thank you I actually had 4 of them from my childhood: the small 15-puzzle to the left of the Spin Out is my very first puzzle which I got when I was 5 years old, and I still remember struggling for a week before I figured out how to get the three last numbers in correct order Then I got the 3x3 for my birthday when I was 7 years old, and the black snake cube and Spin Out are also childhood gifts. I have always loved to play with puzzles, but it was only 5 months ago that I discovered that there existed a whole world of Rubik's like puzzles of different shapes, and that people were actually creating new puzzles by modifying pieces and even inventing new inner mechanisms. From that moment I was hooked and started collecting all the puzzles I could afford. I would probably have feared I was going crazy had I not found this forum and discovered that my behaviour was perfectly normal for the members here

Wow... All this in just 5 months? Tell me, where did you find so many puzzles to buy this quickly? Did you buy mainly from e-bay, or did you find some kind of magic store that has a good variation? I dont want to grow my collection that fast, but the web stores I know have always the same puzzles... Thanks, Paulo

Thank you all for your nice comments on my collection I really didn't expect all this response since I am so new at collecting puzzles and most members who posted pictures of their collection have much larger and nicer collections than I. And I thought it was quite common to suffer from a mild case of a "Misterpoopoohead syndrom" for the first few months after discovering the wonderful world of puzzles But I don't expect the growth rate of my collection to continue the way it has started (due to financial aspects). ppeccin wrote: Wow... Thanks, Paulo I found many of them on e-bay, there are some really nice sellers out there who sent me second chance offers when I did not win an auction, and someone even included some free extras. They had apparently looked me up on google, because they told me they included the extras since I was a fellow mathematician. I never knew a phd in mathematics could be so useful Also, there are some very nice members on this forum who let me buy a few hard to find puzzles and custom made cubes. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any store interested in selling cubes where I live, so I am depending entirely on what I can get via the internet. By the way, it sounds very sensible not to grow your collection too fast

I don't know about you guys, but the thing I find most impressive for 5 months (besides the Icosaminx) is the two Thomas Balls. Back when I could afford to shell out money, I had tried for 2 years (not very hard or anything) but I saw no Thomas Balls up for public bidding or anything.

Klara, that is some nice collection you gained the last months. And by the way, as promised I did some updating for my site, which will include the new section right in the first page. I also placed some copyright text, because I had to deal with a few leeching incidents. And as noted there, the coming month I am expecting 150+ puzzles from various sources, so expect another major update soon! Pantazis PS To go to the Paradise Puzzle page, just click on the left link below and scroll down a bit to view the New Puzzles.

I know where to go to, Pantazi, but the link doesn't show with my board preferences. Maybe other members have the same preferences and don't find your paradise easily. http://www.kastellorizo.org/puzzles/

Got my new magics, updated picture: Unfortunately, the black magic i received is not a real rubik's magic, as evidenced by this picture: Really, the new re-issued magics with the colored background and mirrored rings is much higher quality than this black one. -CC10
