This puzzle is far from done but ive made the designs on pencil and paper and are creating them in CAD. So its pretty much a 5x5 pentagonal prism hence the name gigaminx prism. THe only piece i have created so far is the corner but i should have everything done monday or tuesday. I will post snapshots when i get more of the designs completed. I really want to thank Tyler and Drewseph for helping me understand mechanisms and scott bedard for answering some questions as well. I will be posting updates frequently as i progress twords the completion of this puzzle

I actually came up with this idea when I saw the pentagonal prism many many many months ago. But I had no idea what would go into making it, I simply knew it could and would be made.

I didnt copy from anyone else's idea though i thought of it in geometry class lol.

I think calling it a gigaminx prism makes little sense. I think master/giga/professor's pentagonal prism would be more suitable. A funny thing is I was thinking about this today, what a coincidence! As a side note, I might be able to help you out on prototyping costs. Look here. Although I've had some problems with hygroscopicity recently, it is still something to consider if other services are too expensive. Sanding can fix alot.

Oh! So not only is it 5 pentagonal layers, but each side of the pentagon is two layers deep? That's gonna be an awesome puzzle. Good luck!

I did some sketches and a preliminary design a year or two ago for a 4 layer "Master Pentagonal Prism", but never finished the design or built it. Good luck with your project, I look forward to seeing your approach to the mechanism design.

Gigaminx Prism definitely rolls off the tongue a lot better than "5 Layer Master Pentagonal Prism".
Looking forward to it.

What are the dimensions of this puzzle? The risers out of the core seem a bit thin. I really hope to see this come alive!
