I have been pondering what to do with the mod concepts that I have come up with for the 3x3x3, and I have decided to investigate selling master part sets for the 3x3x3 mods that I have discovered, as well as some of the other well known mods. The cost of the set would be based on the size and number of different parts, but should be in the $20-$30 per part range (average). This means that a Master Part set with 4 different parts would cost somewhere around $100. Selling one completed puzzle on eBay would pay for the parts and materials to build the puzzle. All parts are designed to work with the Chinese DIY kits. The pictures below are of some of my ideas, and I will add more common mods as they are requested, unless they are restricted by the desires of the original builder. Special requests and new ideas are welcome. Attachment:

Wow, these are amazing I'm very interrest ! Since I just begin with mold/casting and that now I know how it works I'm fully interrrested !!!! Can we buy them now or it for later ??? My favorites: Cylinder 1 and 2 Hexagonal Prism Trigonal Prism f-Squared ! I would also like to know if this offer is for a limited time, because I would like to buy 1 or 2 masters and then make the puzzle and then rebuy an other set. Thanks a lot Sim

Wow these ideas are stunning, and if this works out I definitely will buy one or two. One idea I've had for a year or so has been similar to Greenhill's Cube. I can't tell if you've already created it here, because I'm not sure what it would look like, but essentially you cut a corner of the 3x3x3 flat, like you would in a Trajber's Octahedron, and then lay that corner flat on a table. From there, you build the cube up into a new cube, so you're essentially making a cube with the top and bottom centers being corners, and the rest being different faces. Hopefully you understand the scenario. I just always thought that puzzle would be cool, but never actually visualized it.

The tall cylinder looks like a lot of fun. It reminds me of Pre-Calc in high school when we learned conic sections. I always thought they were pretty.

An option I personally would be more interested in is purchasing a copy of the .stl file(s) for any particular cube--could that be an option?

Those are some awesome puzzles. The only problem I foresee is that the masters will cost a fortune for some of those more complex puzzles. The egg, for instance, has a ton of different pieces, as do the next few.
Awesome concepts tho.

From a personal point of view, a large part of the fun is coming up with the ideas and making the masters myself, but I think it is fantastic to give people the opportunity to make some excellent puzzles for themselves. However, I really like the egg idea, and as this is a tough one to hand build, I might think about it.... .... and what would the goose look like that laid it?

Use a ball 3x3x3 and simply throw on some Apoxie Sculpt. You might wanna fill some of the bottom pieces, otherwise all the weight will be on top and the egg will always fall over. Thomas

The "Stella Octangula" and the Twist Cube both should look amazing when made and stickered.

I am considering selling the files for the individual user to print, and build their own puzzles. My price schedule would be something like this:
$10 per part for the .STL files. (I may offer a package deal, or a quantity discount) and Either a completed puzzle, or 25% of the first eBay sale.
Some of the parts are used in multiple mods, as well as more common mods. For example, the triangular corner from the Half Truncated Cube is used in the Mastermorphix, as well as several of the mods I posted. These parts would only need to be purchased once.
Thanks for the feedback on the designs! It will be great to see these concepts actually built. Adam
p.s. I will be posting some "freebies" sometime later this week...

I have posted the sale of the STL files on the Marketplace forum: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10385The other mods will be detailed over the next few weeks. Adam p.s. With the free files, you only need 2 more to make the Hex Prism 2! That would be a great place to start...

The material is relatively inexpensive, but the cost for machine time is the most significant factor. A shop like FDM only will charge $20/hr, while other shops charge approximately $50/hr. Aw, I had the idea for the hex prism a few years ago but didn't (and still don't) have the skills to make anything of it. Has someone built one of those? And how about dodecahedron, icosahedron, octahedron and tetrahedron? Rob.

you say that all these are designed to work with a 3x3 chinese DIY kit....but is there any modification needed for the core itself?? some of these designs I really don't see how they would be able to turn certain ways....maybe I need to see a video lol...

No modification to the core itself, jsut remember the core can be rotated and doesn't necessarily have to lie on an XYZ axis it can be tilted or leaning in some direction. and they haven't been made yet? so i'm not sure videos can be made jsut yet?

o ok....well ya I knew they hadn't been made yet, I was just saying that it would help me better understand how they turn and stuff (as with most custom puzzles) so when they are made I wanna see a video! lol

Puzzlemaster- would it be possible for you to do some screen video capture of you doing some animation, or maybe even manually rotating some of the faces of these puzzles on-screen? That would probably clear up a lot of confusion about them.

Pembo wrote: The hex prism has just been made by KPG-john: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10472Oh, OK. Actually the one I'd come up with was the other hex prism above. If you already have pieces for a rhombicuboctahedron, then it makes use of some edge and corner pieces from that. You can see how one fits inside the other below (image created with Great Stella). Puzzlemaster42 wrote: Sorry yes, I wasn't meaning to suggest that any of those might be new, just that they should be added to the list of mods people might want masters for. Actually I think my dodecahedron and icosahedron are a little tighter around the core (ie smaller), again fitting tightly around a rhombicuboctahedron. I think it disguises the 333 a little more, but there's not much in it. Rob.

Printing for each piece in solid mode is around $10 a part as well so from STL file to master part, $20 or so per piece. It's not too much in my opinion. Do consider all of the time and effort used to create and test each piece of these puzzles. He is offering you a chance to try out his ideas for a decent price instead of making the whole puzzle himself and only allowing a few others with a lot of cash enjoy the benefit. I deem myself lucky to have such an opportunity.

It's more than that. When you buy these pieces, you own them. You can sell puzzles you make from them. He's not demanding royalties off these pieces. The only stipulation is what he mentioned in his ad- $10 per part (11th one is free), plus if you make more than one puzzle to sell, he gets a copy of the puzzle, or 25% of the first sale.
That's very reasonable.
