I have yet to see in concept or reality, a cube with the square-1 top cut on all sides. Also the same for a cube with the DLitwin avatar cut on all sides ? Have either of these designs been discussed before? Thanks

I'm pretty sure It's impossible. Think of it like this: You make the first diagonal line on the top of the cube from the back edge to the front edge going left to right. Now, on the front and back you draw the diagonals that the first one connects to. Those three lines don't make a plane, so you can't cut along that line.
Or, you could make something that looks like a Rubik's 3x3 with the square 1 cuts added, but once you make a half turn I'm pretty sure that the turns on all other faces are blocked.
That said, if you can prove me wrong and build the thing, I will GLADLY eat my words.

I think it would work like Quinn said and would be equivalent to the void cube (i.e. 3x3x3 without centers).

How about the picture that io posted? Try reading the entire thread before posting.

io : That picture you posted is exactly the problem I was trying to point out textually. Pictures really do speak a thousand words (or something like that).
However, as Stefan pointed out, the twist doesn't have to be along the cut lines. The pieces would have to behave something like an edges only cube (where there's that weird overlap) and would be analogous to a void cube. It would be a neat mod, but I'd rather see a completely new mech design.

Yeah, I had a suspicion it would be kinda weird. Just an interesting idea. I have never built or modified a puzzle in my life, so this would probably be a LONG way down the road.
