I'm going to attempt to make a 4x4 hexagonal Dipyramid sometime in the near future, and I want to avoid using a Rubik's Brand 4x4 as the base cube since it has poor turning. Can anyone recommend a good 4x4 to use for mods like this?

I used an Eastsheen for my Megamorphix: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24110. Nice puzzle that turns well and is easy to disassemble. However, if I were to make another mod I think I might use a Rubik's 4x4 (not the re-retooled version). Seems sturdier and you may be able to cut deeper, though I couldn't say for certain.

I tried making a megamorphix out of a Rubik's brand 4x4, and the cuts didn't work - the corners don't go deep enough. It was however the retooled version, so I can't vouch for the other...

If we are talkingabout the same KO,(uses konsta and florian mods?) I've thought about using it, but it seems to loose, plus it's made for speed cubing.

yes, thats what i meant. i would think that almost all 4x4s are about the same for a shape mod, so why not use a good one?
