Hi all,
This is just a little project I did to test out some materials, before getting started on bigger mods. This was made from a rubik's brand 3x3x3 keychain. Some pieces aren't very smooth, or have little dents in them. That's because I had to use Plasto by Revell, instead of normal milliput. Plasto feels more like toothpaste than like klay, wich makes it hard to get in the right shape. I first painted the puzzle with normal graffiti, but that made it extremely stiff. So I washed the paint off with acetone, wich unfortunately also corroded the plastic a little bit. I repainted the puzzle with a thin primer that I picked up at a hobby shop. It's still quite stiff, but I'm assuming that's because of the small parts. As for stickers, I used v-cube stickers and some leftover sticker material I had laying around. I used the color scheme from Dan Fast's super barrels with his permission.
I know it's far from perfect, but keeping in mind that this is the first mod I have ever done, I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.

I like colorful puzzles, but I think this coloring makes it easier to solve. No chance of parity because of the middle layer edges are not solid color.

All the edges, corners and centers have only one correct orientation, wich makes it harder to solve than a normal 3x3, because on a normal 3x3, the centers have more than one correct orientation. You can run in to 3x3 supercube parity.

You can run in to 3x3 supercube parity. On normal Barrel the middle layer edges can be in 2 orientations, what effect on the solution. At the end, you may get a parity. To solve this, you need more turns than just orient the centers. (8 turns / 2 center). In this version you only get center orientation problem. (what you can't get on normal Barrel) So let's say, both kind of sticker variations of this puzzle are harder to solve than a normal 3x3x3, and both has it's unique solution.
