Is it really just as simple as gluing 18 cubies on either side of the puzzle? I am confused because when I hold yellow on top and do an R move, I can't do a U move. Is there any internal modding required? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you have to sand down the bumps on two of the centers.

So disassemble completely and remove the two longer core pieces and sand them down?
