Basically I was wondering if it would be possible to make a cube where only the middle layer (E) was modded to be like a fisher cube. I don't think this has been done before but I'd be pleasantly surprised if it has. It would essentially look like a regular 3x3 with a 45 degree E turn applied when solved. I know it could be done but I don't think it can be done so that the "edge" (center) pieces and the "center" (edge) pieces would be uniform with the rest of the cube. I think it would only really pose a challenge and look nice if it could be done this way. Any thoughts?

This has been done many times, it's a pretty common modification known as the cutter cube. Just youtube it and you can find videos of it and even a tutorial on how to make.

yeah it's called a cutter cube i have made one myself using plastic sheeting.

How well could it be done in reverse. Ie 45 degree turn E layer. Then mod U and D layers. That's not just a fisher cube is it.

that is close to a fisher cube but not quite. you could try it. or maybe you could only mod the U or D layer.

Can it be done by simply combining the pieces of a normal 3x3 and a Fisher Cube, without building or modding any specific piece?

If you can replace the centers then yes it's possible, but as I don't own a Fisher Cube I'm not sure if you can do that.

The top and bottom centers on a fisher cube are normal if you just change the top and bottom edges and corners you get this.

I realize that it's possible to make this by swapping fisher pieces and regular 3x3 pieces, but i was more thinking of one that would be indistinguishable from a normal 3x3. Looks like it would take a creative solution for that to happen. Thank for all the input though!
