I hope the pictures can explain. In the first one, it shows a face. In the second, it shows which circles are attached to which layers. The face from pic 1 is now R.
If you turn the gray layer, the gray pieces move. If you turn the green layer, only the green pieces move. (including the circle) If you turn the yellow layer, only yellow pieces move. (including circle) If you turn the blue layer, B, the blue pieces move (including circle)
I think it would make an awesome puzzle if built

If you turn the 2 topslices two times, will grey still be grey??

I think the colors in Skewber's pictures are meant to differentiate between different subsets of pieces, and are not the actual colors of the pieces on the puzzle. The puzzle would be colored normally.

I'd love to see this built. I might even go and CAD this up tonight!

Each face has the circles. It functions on all 6 axes Just showed one axis to (try to) avoid confusion... It's stickered like a normal 4x4x4.

turning the grey layer will turn the outer ring with the corners on the front and the most inner circle in the back layer?

Your particular layout actually won't be any harder than any super super 4x4 (including "internal" pieces, for example a crazy 4x4 type 2, 3 or 4), just fwi I also have a feeling the blue pieces would be incredibly difficult to "connect" to the opposite face in any manner.

It would make a visually confusing computer puzzle though

Oskar's Crazy 6 only goes down 3 layers. My concept goes all the way through the cube.

I'm sure there's no way this could be done purely mechanically with that pattern on all six sides. How can you have two opposite sides each turn the inner circle of the other side without a self-intersecting mechanism?

I know what you mean, I had this idea a while back. It would be complex to build, though. Each side would be the opposite, there would have never been a core like it before.
