Hello everyone, I just thought of a great puzzle, but I don't know if I was the first one to think of it.
Use a Rubik's Ice Cube (Must be transparent) take all of the stickers off so the internal egde pieces are clearly visible on each side. Mark the internal edge pieces in a way that the can be solved and scrambled. This should make a challenging puzzle because the internal edge pieces can't be moved directly. Three of these will attached to the core.

Interesting idea.
That would work like one half of an Edges-Only Fused Cube.

One-half of an edges-only fused cube? I swear you're making things up!
Anyway sounds like a unique puzzle to me!

Cool idea. I have a rubik's ice cube here, so I think I'll try it. Don't worry, though, if it ends up working, the credit for the idea goes to you!

I might try permanent marker to mark the inner pieces, but I'll allow them to dry overnight before attempting to put it back together again, for fear that the colors will smudge.

I never knew that Rubik brand 2x2's used a 3x3 mech. This will create a nice puzzle, but won't it just be a edge-only fused cube? Because when you turn each 2x2 layer, it will turn a layer on the inside.

i tried something like this with an eastsheen 2x2 i wrote letters on some of the pieces just so i could see how the internals worked with the outside of the puzzle. but having to take off some of the pieces to see what had happened made it kind of difficult.
