I recently got a Rubik's 4x4 and 5x5. How do you make them worthy of speed cubing?

You lube it and break it in a lot. Takes awhile though. My Rubik's 4x4 is
nice but i still like my eastsheen 4x4 and 5x5 better.

4x4 takes 2 hours to break in roughly (both of mine have)
as for the 5x5, it's hard work, but worth it.
Took me about 8 hours of continuous turning to break it in. I just and turned the same face over and over until it turned smoothly and I could trigger it with my left index finger. Once it is at the stage on all sides, you will be more likely to solve it as it turns a lot better.
If you are ever watching a film or something, just sit and turn it. I did while watching Red Dwarf series 1-4.

Wait, just 8 hours? I thought it was a couple of months or something.
If it's only 8 hours, I'm going to try to re-break-in my old 5x5x5 cube. I can't completely do a quarter turn on any of the outer layers with one index finger.

That's just to break it in to make it playable, it by no means fast.... sorry for the confusion.

Still, if you can do a quarter turn with an index finger, that's better than the Rubik's one I have.
I don't think it will ever be a cube of sub-2 quality, but I need to have a backup in case my Eastsheen explodes or breaks.
