Hi,

I've encountered a parity with the Open-Eyed Evil Eye Rhombic Dodecahedron. Everything is solved, except for two eye-pieces that need to swap:

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Greetz,
Quuador

I can't see your picture but I assume you are talking about the centers of the open eyes. These are actually the same as 3x3x3 edge pieces but without orientation. They can be swapped the same way that you would do so on a 3x3x3.

I cant give you an algorithm how to get out of this situation, but a method how to prevent it.
I solved that puzzles several times and never get in a parity situation.

1. solve center - dots (in the correct color scheme)
2. solve edges above the centers
3. solve corners (using cps - for example)

Good luck

Ah of course. Thanks a lot, this did the trick. I swapped them and resolved the pieces that messed up because of it.

@AMC I just turn a babyface by 90 degrees and resolve the puzzle. :)

thanks konrad. from your suggestion I think you mean that on the 'baby face' I move each centre by one place and then this parity goes.

update

I just tried this and it does work. now three corners are out. so it now solves.

Just to be sure that my wording was clear enough:

Let us agree on some names:

eye pieces (= 3x3x3 edges): the pieces seen through the holes - they are NOT centres
centres: triangular pieces with one sticker
corners: the pieces with two stickers (The name is influenced by the mental model of a 3x3x3 cube with 6 baby faces)
baby face: 4 centres + 4 corners around a vertex

Here is the corner parity:

We see an odd permutation of corners.

Baby face turned by 45 degrees:

Baby face turned by 90 degrees:

The corners are now in an even permutation: we need a 3-cycle to solve them.
The centres are in an odd permutation on that baby face.
Because the centres come in 12 pairs, we can involve another one of the same colour on a different baby face (e.g. the other pink centre) to solve the centres by pure 3-cycles.
