Back in this post I made some comments about how I thought the Split Jing's Pyraminx worked.

I have now put about 6 hours into trying to unjumble the puzzle without complete success. The closest I have gotten is a single "bar" of pieces jumbled out of place:

I think the appropriate way to see this is to view it as two different groups of pieces that need swapped:That is, I think the blue groups need swapped and the red groups need swapped. Unfortunately I haven't been able to achieve this and after a lot of trying I usually end up jumbling the puzzle up again. I have gotten to this situation or a situation like it a few times.

Has anyone unjumbled this puzzle yet? Intuition is failing me on this beast.

Frustrating. I took the puzzle apart to try to explore jumbling near the solved state. I got lost after a few moves and couldn't get back to solved. A few more moves and I was in this state

The state pictured above is only a handful of moves away from solved but I lack the intuition on this puzzle to see how. I'm probably going to have to take it apart again...

Maybe from solved you should try rotating only two faces. Once you fully understand that try adding in a third. On the right edge it looks like there is a gap. Could you post a picture showing what piece is hidden there?

Yeah just turning two faces is a good idea. I'll have to take the puzzle apart to get it back to solved though.

I'm not sure what you mean by gap / hidden piece. The entire rest of the puzzle is solved in my picture. Only that one group of pieces which I've colored is out of place.

I confused the shadow for a jumbled piece. You really are close to solving!

In this situation stickering it would give you a better idea of what's going on and make retracing your steps easier. It might be too much to ask to wait until it's been tumbled, dyed and stickered to play with it though.
