To solve the 3x3x9 (I have the same one as you), first be sure to know the algorithms for the 3x3x2. Then you basically solve the center slice, then line up the "t" on the slice below it, fill in the corners on that slice using 3x3x2 algos, then solve the slice above it like the top side of a 3x3x2. The basics of this (applying 3x3x2 to 3x3xN) I learned mainly from this video:

I actually haven't learned the parity algorithm. I just follow through with solving the top and bottom slices, and if the pieces on the right are backwards, i just make the right pieces correct, then re-solve the slices. It's not fast, but it works for me and my puny little brain.
I had known for almsot a year that to solve my 3x3x9, i needed to "apply the 3x3x2 algos to it", but the little bit of magic to make it work was unlocked for me in the video above.
