Hi Guys,
Thought I should make mention of the occasional spam registrations and what happens here. I receive an occasional email regarding them so I thought I should pass this info on.
I check the new registrations on a daily basis and we have an average of two spam registrations per week and of those, only one in ten post a message. So we are doing relatively well compared to many forums out there.
Whoever posts a message, I add their IP to a ban list and any others have their account simply deleted. It amazes me how much effort some spammers go to to register themselves only to be deleted the next day. More amusingly, most registrations forget to include a website for buying their dodgy products.

You should not ban IP's addresses becasuse several members can use the same IP address (in diferent days).

Thanks, rubikaz. Unfortunately, I'm just a moderator it's not my call.
And banning the IP addresses is safe enough. I doubt the millions of combinations out there will be a problem.

If it was a problem, the user could get in touch and it could be sorted out. I doubt the situation would occur with our registration rate.
Don't think I've ever heard of an ISP dishing out the same IPs for all users. Companies do it with a proxy but I haven't heard of an ISP doing it. Not that it isn't possible. But again not enough to discourage banning IPs.
The spammers that come here are repeat offenders so it sometimes pleases me when they post, because I finally catch their IP.

Guys can I please remind people not to reply to any spam posts. Just ignore them. The spammer does not return to read your comments.
I clear out all spam post and registrations every morning so there is no need to request I do it for every post.
Thanks, guys.
