4.487, that's good enough
1.001 is unbelievable... they seem to be approaching 1.000, maybe that's the limit of the program? Still it's hard to believe this is real. I want a new keyboard layout, where the first line reads "ABCDEFGHIJ", the second reads SRQPONMLK" and the third "TUVWXYZ". Then I can get 1.001, too.
Cheers!
Stefan

2.167
(Warning: pics are quite big)
This is harder than I thought, sub-2 is possible for me, I think
Using standard qwerty setup

Ok how about something slightly more useful:
Code: public class HelloWorld { public static void main ( String[] args ) { System.out.println( "Hello world!" ); } }
Best after a few attempts: 18.31 (sub20, yeah  )

Ok, but I'll optimise it a bit
main() { printf("Hello, world!"); }
4.32 - I'm sure I can get it faster, aswell
Don't worry, I'll do the normal one when I've got more time.
Technically, this should be easyer, because you're really used to typing these things because you use them regularly. I'll see
Quote: int i;main(){for(;i["]o, world!\n",'/'/'/'));}read(j,i,p){write(j/p+p,i---j,i/i);}
Would also be a good one.
Did you know Jessica Fridrich hosted the Internation C Coding Steganography contest?
First one to write a quine in [Censored. Please be nice!] wins next!

That's so awful! I understand how it works, but does j,i,p at least have a deeper meaning, like initials of the author or so? And if gcc -ansi -pedantic accepts such a %$!@ then something with ANSI must be wrong

I got 4.094 on the alphabet typing contest. I think the people who get really fast scores on this test don't type 'normally' but have figured out a way 'where to put their fingers especially for this test'.
Now I type A-G with my left hand, then H-P with my right hand and I think it might be faster if you do this differently.
The fastest typist can be found at http://sominfo.syr.edu/facstaff/dvorak/blackburn.html
Her top speed is 212 WPM, which means 26 strokes (the alphabet) in 2.08 on average.

I use the dvorak keyboard layout when i type normally at home. Allows me to type much faster, really. I should be able to type at 100+wpm lesurly if I work at it.

Could we please see this layout of this keyboard? I wonder how many different type of layouts of keyboards there are? I know a while back I read in a magazine that they were thinking about going to change it but nothing happened.

with some "practice" I got a 2.07 with a best average of 2.29.
One handed I got 2.97 as a best time with a best average of 3.11
This is sooo addicting and fun!
Some others should try one handed, I wanna see how fast THAT can get.

1.80 today
man, its a lot easier with PC keyboards....I have been using a mac one.
I also broke 1.8 today in school, but, as soon as I hit Z, the window closed for some reason, so I didn't get an actual time. when I looked up hitting Y, it was at 1.69. ARGH!

This is pretty fun to do. After a couple dozen tries I got 3.5 seconds. My fingers won't let me go any faster than that.

Bloody hell.
What techniques are you using, if any?
I do it like this:
(ab) (cde) (fgh) (i) (jkl) (mn) (op) (qrs) (tuv) (wxyz)

hm....how to type the "finger tricks"....I guess I will denote the hand and finger I use for each letter, the hand first, (R or L) and then T (thumb), I (index), M (middle) R (ring), or P (pinky). The letter of the alphabet typed will be in parentheses. The brackets will represent a group that flows together, like you would write (RUR'U') in cube notation. Here goes:
[(a)LR (b)RI] [(c, d, e)LI, LM, RR] [(f, g, h)] [(i)LI] [(j, k, l)RI, RM, RR] [(m, n)RM, RI] [(o, p)RM, RR] [(q, r, s, t)LR, LI, LM, LI] [(u, v)RI, RI] [(w, x, y, z)LM, LI, RI, LM]
If anyone can decode that, I would be surprised... Good luck!

3.665 one-handed.
I've tryed your solution, but I execute it differently when I do it. it's mostly the same though. I think Sub-1.5 is possable for me, then i think I can start competing with you again

Nah, they look the same. I think I just get confused with two hands, not getting the "finger tricks" right, but instead typing like usual. New 3.495 record with the left hand, btw. Haven't tried right hand yet. I solve twisty puzzles one-handed with my left hand, too.
Oh and hey, your "Best Average - 31.16secs" is really slow for this
