I feel they cheated a bit - it is not pure ASCII art since they added lines, and tilt the drawings, etc.

For some real ascii art, try Cosmic Blop, a movie stored in a 4K program:

Adding lines is no additional sin once you tilt things :D. It reminds me of... I think a few years ago someone had a complete movie (might've been Star Wars or similar) translated to ASCII as his Unix .profile file so when you fingered him you watched the movie. It was a lot larger, though, many MBs.

That Cosmic Blop is beautiful...

Two windows freeware programs maybe of further interest:

AsciiArtMachine converts pictures to text.
http://www.svenbader.de/download/AsciiArtMachine.exe

HTML Image converts pictures to colored HTML.
http://www.sulaco.co.za/downloads/HTMLImage.zip

HTMLImage generates text based color images which look very similar to the original. Not included is an option to save the HTML as picture. Does anyone knows a freeware converter from HTML to a picture format like GIF,JPG,TIFF ? Then it would be possible to bring the HTML image to photo paper. I hadn't found a freeware converter yet.
