With the Rvenge of The Sith coming out soon I thought I'd ask beforehand:

Everybody knows that Anakin Skywalker is going to become Darth Vader. What do you think the audiences' reactions will be when the man in the famous black helmeted his "first" appearance?
Will they be silent?
Will they gasp?
Will they boo?
Will they cheer wildly?

Maybe we can take a poll, but with more reactions. Suggestions?
We can run the poll until the day before the release.

I don't want to start a flame war, but... What do you guys find in Star Wars movies??? I don't get it! I find them rather uninteresting, and I really could not hold off a giggle here and there.

It's OK if you don't get it. I'll try to give you some perspective on their popularity.

To a certain degree Lucas modeled the Star Wars movies on the old movie serials: every weekend you could go to the movies and get to see the next chapter.

Have you ever read any of Joseph Campbell's books about myths and why they touch people? There is a book called "The Hero with 1000 faces" in which he talks of the hero's journey, and the way that different cultures express it.

Try to see Star Wars within the contexts of archetypes. It's easy to see how Star Wars parallels the great myths, and that takes nothing at all from Lucas as a master storyteller.

For example, Episode I dealt with a good and responsible person doing the right things for the right reasons, and *still* being manipualted by an evil person. I know of no other movie which did that.

The first Star Wars movie in 1977 established a new standard for special effects. For the movie Douglas Trumble developed 70 millimeter film (four times the size of the 35 mm standard at the time) used in conjunction with a 60 frames a second camera. They tied the matte process to physics! The visual clarity of the movies visually was unprecedented. In Episode I the city planet was rendered in incredible detail. When Anakin flies into space from Naboo there is a starscape that is simply awesome.

You get a laugh, but Revenge of the Sith took in $300 million worldwide in three days.

I was a 12 year old when I first saw the original movies. Watching them again (and the new ones) is some kind of refreshing childrens memories.
