Can you believe it? I was so upset that I wanted to smash something! They had better pull their act together.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when our only British weight lifter failed to even lift off the floor the first weight on his first attempt! The commentator said "That's the end of the Great British weightlifting challenge".

As a non-American I enjoyed the victory by Puerto Rico. Is it true that Team USA is missing some big names because of money issues? Am I old-fashioned or what, but I thought it was an honour to represent your country in the Olympics?

I miss the days of the 1992 olympic dream team. An 8-0 record and a gold medal. Jordan, Barkly, Pippen, Bird, Stockton, Malone, Ewing, etc...
I used to really be into basketball, but after Jordan left I stopped caring. It just hasn't been the same since for me.

Team USA has some stars on it but could have had many more. Like Shaq, Kobe, Carter, etc. But its never going to be like the original Dream Team with Magic and Bird and Co.

These guys make millions and their contracts stipulate that if they get injured outside of NBA games they lose $$$, so they use that as a way out. Others are just not as into it.

Although I'm not taking anything away from Puerto Rico or any of the other teams. Besides, many teams not have NBA stars on them anyway.

also some players opted out because of safety concerns

The USA could probably just put the UCONN mens team (or even better, the Denver Nuggets) out there and they would stomp butt, because they have played as a team the whole season. This team USA has only played together a few weeks.

NBA player Zydrunas Ilgauskas (Big Z) refused to play in Lithuania's olimpic team due to the risk of injury. So we have only one NBA player in the team. But the European basketball level is good enough to raise excelent players.

You got that right, it's amazing how far the world has come at basketball. It's a great thing because basketball is an excellent sport.

I think the games outcome might be a little different if the international rules were the same as NBA rules where it's illegal to just stand in the paint in a zone defense. Man to man defense makes for more exciting games anyway.
