Never! We're going to humiliate the Aussies. It's all fun and games until Holland steps onto the grass!
I actually like Aussies though, so on behalf of the Dutch team I would like to apologize in advance for beating your team.

2-2 right now but so far only one team has been humiliated. Guessing the Dutch might well sneak it though. Like Brazil I think they assumed their second match would be easy and haven't been truly motivated.

What an excellent game! Although I believe Australia deserved a draw from this game,
well done to the Dutch, best game in the World Cup so far.

If only we had converted that huge chance moments before Holland scored.
But that is the wild beauty of football.

Now the Australia vs Holland statistics are perfectly balanced, both in terms of points and goals!

:D

I feel sorry for folks with tickets for the Spain-Australia game, I can't imagine it will be very exciting since both are out already. For Spain the only question is how bad/embarrassing will their exit (and ultimate goal difference) be? I'm still shocked!

Actually, I would be thrilled to watch a game of Australia versus the current World Champions
(they are still the holders, that is, until the 13th of July).

The Dutch struggled like no tomorrow in the first half, they need to up their game if they want to beat the next one in line!

The next game doesn't matter too much since they are through. I am guessing though they will settle for a draw to avoid a likely Brazil in the next round. Chile will have other plans though and might edge it if the Dutch aren't careful.

Regarding Australia v Spain. Australia will be up for that one and it wouldn't surprised me if they win. Spain has nothing to play for whatsoever.

In fact Brazil did not assumed playing against Mexico would be easy, we assumed would be very hard as it really was... The Mexico's goalkeeper was very inspired this last match and he frustrated all of our good chances of reaching the goal... Everyone that plays against Brazil does it like there is no tomorrow! We also focus on not suffering a defeat too...

I would like to see this game, Dutch team is very fast and competitive so would be a real challenge ; )

That's because everyone knows Brazil is a great team. You should use England's tactic of looking rubbish. Oh hang on, we are rubbish ha ha.

Dramatic ending in Greece's group, but it seems we got some nice form when we needed it most!
And now it is Costa Rica, a team not to be underestimated!!!

Suarez should be kicked out the World Cup before Uruguay play their next game, and given a two year ban from football by FIFA - after all, this is the third time he has done this. What sort of an example does this set for the youngsters watching the "beautiful game"? And when he stood at the press interview and blatantly lied and said he "fell into his shoulder" that should make his punishment worse. Why are these overpaid prima donnas allowed to get away with this? If I had an "altercation" with someone and ended up biting them I would be charged with assault/ABH/GBH and end up with a criminal record. Sorry about the rant

I have to say that, while shameful, I couldn't stop laughing at the pictures of Suarez holding his teeth, as if to blame the Italian. The fact that he did bite (again!) might have been in doubt from the replay alone, but Suarez holding his teeth kind of gives it away.

Maybe he's trying to pull them out to hide the evidence.

Does this mean in the future, if you want to play football you would be required to obtain
an anti-tetanus injection???

Joking aside, I still cannot understand why would someone do this. And I wouldn't dare
be his psychologist!!! (I just wouldn't want to know about his childhood - who knows what
memories may be projected to the present, and the consequences thereafter!)

On CNN:

FIFA also announced that Luis Suarez, Uruguay's star striker, has been suspended for the rest of the World Cup tournament for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the game between the two soccer powers on Tuesday. He is suspended for a total of nine matches and is banned from any kind of soccer-related activity for four months.

Does this mean training with team-mates, watching games, giving football related interviews etc. I hope so. But what the hell, I bet he still gets paid his ÂŁ200K a week wages during this ban period.

The trouble is, 2 months of that ban is pretty meaningless, since it's off season anyway. The 100k Swiss Franc fine is meaningless too - around 2 days pay to him.

Gus: I think it means something like: not being at the ceremony, not being at public things. Basically he can be at his own team, but nowhere can he show his face.

The punishment is absolutely ridiculous. He should either get a life ban or be ordered to wear a muzzle for every match.

Aaargh... the penalties from Costa Rica saved Holland, as Greece was gaining some serious momentum!
Oh well... next time (and if next time nothing happens, then the next-next time... to infinity!!!).

Many things have been said the past decades regarding the penalties. Still, penalties seem
to be a good realistic way to also add some tension and excitement.

But one of my favourite alternatives was having a player reduced every five minutes until
there are only two left on the field (that is, until someone scores a goal...!)

Imagine Messi vs Ronaldo being the last two!!!

Hey... we are trying to ensure that the game will end with a goal scored as soon as possible,
and not to continue to... infinity!

But I guess that *could* be an interesting spectacle...!

Actually, it is 1/8. But it is very possible that they will reach 1/4.

I love the spectacle of penalties but why not have judges like in boxing? Teams could be judged on attack, defence, pass completion, fouls etc. It would also discourage those boring 0-0 affairs where neither side tries very hard. The only alternative is replays. Anything else is not football.

The goalies from opposite ends? You might be very surprised!!

Of course one has to tell the goalie on the other end to pick one position and he has to stand like that in that spot until the opponent's ball has passed ;)

Surely watching the same game again and again on video won't change the result. I know, because I've tried it.
