First off I wanna apologize if there has been a thread for this. I just dont wanna bump it. Anyway, I am a huge fan of heavy metal music. A few bands I like are: NecrophagistAs Blood Runs BlackAs I Lay DyingMetallicaSlipknotThats just to name a few. So, do you guys listen to this type of music? If so, do you like these bands? Also what bands should I take a look at? Thanks!

The only band I like that could really be considered "hardcore" would be A Day to Remember. "Screamo" which kinda fits in here would be Chiodos.

Yes, I do occasionally listen to this type of music (Disturbed, Slipknot being the only groups I have on iTunes), but I also listen to lots of classic rock, rock, and classical music. All in all, I like essentially any type of music, with the exception of country-twang.

I "live of music"! I listen practically everything, but my favorite genres surely are metal and rock. Maybe I could be defined a metalhead, but I hate these tag names.... I listen quite everything of Thrash and Death Metal, a little less Heavy, Progressive and Viking/Folk Metal, and very few Black and Power, while I totally detest the majority of the nu-metal and "-core" bands (metal-core, death-core, grind-core, emo-core, and every new crap genre that is a noisy and/or commercial commistion of hardcore, that is a completely different genre, and other genres...) My favorite band is the one in the signature , and a part Pantera I also love all the old school Thrash, Death and Heavy bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill, Sodom, Kreator, Coroner, Exodus, Annihilator, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Deicide, Cryptopsy, Nile, Pestilence, Vader, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society, ect... infinite list ), plus all the old hard rock bands, some new bands and some progressive or technical bands (Atheist, Cynic, Tool, ect...)

Not much of a Dream Theater person, but I liked Liquid Tension Experiment. My favorite artists include Tool, A Perfect Circle, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, The Melvins, Mr. Bungle (Another Patton project), and a bunch of other bizarre progressive bands. I'm not all that into death metal or anything that heavy, but I love Opeth, and that's kinda opened me up to some of the death metal genre.

The only Death/Scream/Hardcore Metal I can listen to is stuff where I can tune out the vocals and listen to the melody. Anything where the screaming/growling vocals are the main focus just makes me cringe; to me, that's not music.
That being said, I love Heavy Metal like Metallica and Megadeath, where they actually sing and not sound like they're trying to cough up phlegm. I listen to a lot of other genres as well, but Rock and Metal are probably my favorites.

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear other people that listen to Skillet,
I'm a Christian, so I tend to stick to Christian bands for listening to, so Skillet is one of my favorites.
I guess not a whole lot of people realize they are Christian.
A couple other bands I listen to in this genre are Pillar and Flyleaf and Fireflight.

I'm not a fan of the really heavy stuff. Some of the songs, with the screaming vocals and over-distorted guitars, I can't understand a word they are saying. I really like a lot of the classic rock from the late 70s through the 90s. My birthyear is 1981, btw. Pretty much everything from Pink Floyd on through the Red Hot Chilli Peppers I like to listen to. I don't own a lot of rock music on CD (I listen to a variety of formats), but my favorite rock stations on Sirius/XM are Hair Nation and the BoneYard.

It's this quality featured in crappy metal bands that often is the reason for truly phenomenal bands getting trash. Honestly, there are some metal songs I just can't believe are even possible to not like. Bands with amazing talents and who take huge amounts of time perfecting truly beautiful pieces just to be booed off by those who generalize the genre because wanna-be's think they can imitate the magnificence and end up busting out tons of crappy songs back-to-back, overloading the genre with disgrace to the genre. /rant (Note: not attacking you or your statement, I'm just stating my opinion. No offense intended) However, I find a number of songs in your description carry the same awe that just can't be disliked. Of particular significance is Sweet Child o' Mine, in my opinion. It's one of four songs that put me in that trance of awe. Starfire (DragonForce), I Walk Beside You (Dream Theater), Welcome Home (Coheed and Cambria, not Metallica), and Sweet Child o' Mine.
