I think it's something different then that due to the cross cuts on the truncated surfaces. Can we see a picture of a turn or two?

From the looks of it, it seems like a Helicopter Cube with the corners removed and the centers exposed.

Doesn't this have 14 edges, and the helicopter only 12, or am I counting wrong?

The Helicopter Cube rotates around where the 3x3x3 edges would be. This puzzle also rotates around the where the 3x3x3 edges would be if it was in this shape.

I say no because of the mssing corners and corner mechs... but it is still a shapemod of the heli... what do you think?

Wow! VERY cool mechanism! I wonder if it could be applied to making a simpler shells-mech 24 cube? Just a thought...

This puzzle is very cool. But it looks like, solving is pretty trivial. It's as easy as pyraminx or rainbow cube, isn't it?

As far as I see ,it's nothing but a helicopter without corners and with centers.so I suppose jumbling makes it more difficult than pyraminx, though still quite easy.

I'll wait until some reviews come out, and then I'll probably get it. I really want a mass produced edge turning octahedron!

NType3 wrote: How does one tell what puzzles are KO's? The best start is to read our KO policy and the associated sticky thread. Once you understand the reasons behind the policy it is easier to get a general sense. A main question to ask is: "What is being allegedly knocked off?" In this case we have a different shape and mechanism so any link to the helicopter is very tiny. Search for and read the many KO related threads to get more info on the many subtleties on this issue, it is often very difficult to make these determinations. Ultimately it up to the mods to make the call but if people take a bit more time before speculating it helps us. If you really have a concern, reporting the thread or PMing a mod is the best approach. No more KO talk on this thread though Dave

Just saw Meffert's email about this. Nice!!! I haven't seen this puzzle before. I'm going to get one but wanted to see the 6 color version before making up my mind which one I wanted to get. Meffert's doesn't have a picture up yet and I don't see one in this thread either. Any pictures of that version floating around?
I agree it looks like a Helicopter cube without corners but with exposed centers/edges/not sure what to call these pieces that are fixed to the core and just rotate. Except in this puzzle it looks like these pieces AREN'T the ones fixed to the core. Very very cool. I think I'm more interested in the mech then the actual puzzle.
Any threads around about this mech? Would love to read/see more.
Carl

Wow, I like it and I don't like it all at the same time. Seriously, mf8 and DaYan need to stop moulding the colours onto the puzzles if they want more customers. There are so many puzzles I would buy from them but don't due to that.

In my collection, and in many others, people prefer plastic, usually either black or white, with stickers or tiles. So many great puzzles, like the Crazy Megaminx, Crazy 4x4x4 III, and all the Crazy 3x3x3 Plus variants are awesome, and I want them. The thing is though is that they look cheap, and I prefer to have stickers.

Based on your posts, it seems that neither of you have actually bought or owns any one of these so called, "ugly" cubes. I myself thought them to be hideous, until I finally bought one and saw first hand it's beauty. I really think you should see one in person because these photos do no justice for these beautiful puzzles; really, they're actually not ugly.

Actually, I have a Crazy 4x4x4 III, so I do have a plastic coloured cube. And coloured or not, I can still see it looking extremely perculiar on my puzzle shelves. And thank you Calvin.

Hmm, this looks very interesting. For some reason, for this puzzle specifically I like the colored plastic version better than the b/w version. Also, the colored plastic really isn't that bad, in person. I'd love to buy it, but will probably wait until the price goes down/when I have more money. I'll be broke from all these meffert puzzles! XD
On a more practical note, I really like the 6-axis design of the mech. It appears as if the triangle pieces (sorry, I can't really describe. It's the pieces that actually move) can be flipped oirentation-wise. Would this puzzle solve similarly to a Pyraminx?

It also cuts down on commentators saying "oh, I just switch the stickers" . I'm not saying SEBUVER doesn't have a point though. My only problem with the 8 color version is that this puzzle has 14 sides so there are duplicate pieces which makes this puzzle not as hard as it could be. Having to distinguish between them adds a bit of difficulty that I'd miss. Mefferts lists a DaYan Gem solid 6 Colors. Is that a typo or is there another solid mold color scheme?

Yeah, I guess I should add that I was exaggerating a little -- by all means continue to make the solid-color puzzles, I know many others do enjoy them. Just offer them in black as well. I just want all the puzzles in my collection to match. Just like how I can't stand things like having two books in a trilogy in hardcover and one in softcover, and so on.

Yesterday, my Gem Cube has arrived: I have ordered it at the day of the original post at hknowstore (not expecting that Meffert's would put it up a few days later). The envelope had been broken during transport (a weak envelope BTW, I would really recommend a card box), but fortunately the puzzle has been not harmed. I had to put the stickers on, otherwise it is fully assembled. Regarding the colour scheme, I have used 8 colours for the larger triangles and followed existing 8 coloured puzzles, like my Face Turning Octahedron. For the smaller triangles I have used 6 colours, contrasting to the 4 adjacent larger faces. In my view, this colour scheme is nicer than that of the solid coloured plastic version. The turning is excellent, absolutely comparable to the Helicopter Cube (without any lubrication, so far ) The solution is very easy, I feel similarly about it as the solution of a Rainbow Cube. The scrambled puzzle looks very intimidating to a novice, but the solution is completely intuitive. It seems even easier to me than solving centres only on a normal Helicopter: The exposed middle of an edge helps a lot. (I have not yet scrambled it by jumbling moves, though) My verdict: A nice and easy puzzle (Sometimes, you want something easy and relaxing). EDIT: @Monopoly: Monopoly wrote: ...It appears as if the triangle pieces (sorry, I can't really describe. It's the pieces that actually move) can be flipped oirentation-wise. Would this puzzle solve similarly to a Pyraminx? The moving pieces with the little triangles on them are never flipped when they are at their correct location. The solution is easier than that of a Pyraminx, I dare say. The comparison with a Curvy Copter without corners seems quite adequate to me. Without jumbling moves, the 24 moving pieces move in four orbits. Only jumbling moves can mix orbits. EDIT2: As expected, jumbling move sequences are pretty much identical to the Helicopter Cube.

If the crazy megaminx doesn't come out in plain black, I am going to be so mad... Please stop, mf8. At the very least, offer things in colored plastic AND in regular black plastic. Iranon, please do not be mad. Sorry to inform you that Crazy Megaminx series has 8 types, consists of Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Earth, Mars, Uranus and Neptune, like Crazy 3x3 plus. But, all in color plastic version. Here, you can order the Crazy Megaminx - saturn,

55$ for each one. that's quite expensive. Nobody will buy 8 planets.

Wait, the crazy megaminx is going to have "planets" too? That's disappointing, so is the price

Would it be difficult to mod it so that all faces turned the same way? If so, I would be interested in getting one.

Hmm... didn't expect them to do planets on the megaminx. Seems like they could do a whole lot more than just 8. Ballpark I'm thinking there's at least 20, probably 30-40. I wonder which 8 they chose. I really enjoy my Jupiter, but idk if I want to do 3x as much edge/corner pairing. I'll still probably get 1 or 2.

Find out which version has exactly six of each face type, then buy two of that version. From thsoe parts, you will be able to build one "Pure Circle" version and with the remaining parts, build a "dummy" version that operates as a standard megaminx. My Neptune 3x3x3 is convoluted enough that it's nearly impossible to fix the centers, so I'm probably not getting the Crazy Megaminx. But I would really them to release a "Crazy I Gigaminx" with internal megaminx to solve, just like the Crazy 4x4x4 v1.

I think it will be able to be easily modded into a crazy megaminx or a cross megaminx in the same way the crazy 3x3's can.
