How do you convert .rar files to .stl?

.RAR is an archive file like .ZIP. You have to download winrar and decompress it. In there will be the 20 STL's.

So maybe this puzzle is WAY out of my league but I'm going to save these STL's for a rainy day maybe 3 years from now :D

Thanks Drew, you are a master puzzle designer and builder.

I believe this should be the very last addition to the megaminx line of puzzles.(odd numbered that is.) It seems an examinx would be just way too bulky, cumbersome and time-consuming(both in building and in solving) to be worth building. I think the Petaminx would also be very time-consuming in the puzzle solving area, but it's still almost reasonable.

Edit: If anyone ends up building still higher order megaminx type puzzles later, go for it. I'm just saying, I'd never try to solve an examinx if I could get one for free, probably not this petaminx either.

elijah, The topic is about a Petaminx for free, not a puzzle that hasn't been been discussed yet, please stay on topic.

I think Drew is just trying to keep the discussion on topic, seeing how his other threads go.

About the design, the biggest flaw I can see is the outer edge will be impossible to sticker, tile, or anything besides paint. I hate paint :( .

I think that's probably going to be the case with any design for a petaminx. As far as stickering it goes, I was trimming some stickers on a 3x3x3 last night, and I found that I could make very precise, thin sliver type stickers with an exacto knife. Applying them accurately to the edges might be tricky, but then again, what part of a petaminx *isn't* tricky?

Why can't the layers be expanded outward just a smidge?

There's the possibility of a ripple effect. A small change here means a little bigger change there, and an even bigger one there.
It's also possible that Drew could change 2 numbers in his file and everything will automagically work.

I don't know what choices he made in the design, so I couldn't tell you.
Just know that "just a smidge" could require anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple days of work.

I read Garretts complain, and realized perhaps it is too thin, I adjusted the thickness of the external layers just a bit and now the center edge is thicker. I will update the files again, so long as no one jumped the gun on a full print =)

Apparently it was only a couple minutes of work.

that much to fully print it? That sounds a little too cheap.

I have been quoted for 160 USD, for the 20 parts for casting at print to 3d.

What version are the files? Are they the ones with the shell, or the original version?

Um, how much would it cost to print 1 each of the center, center cap, edge, corner and 2 each of the rest? Also, can I in theory use a Megaminx for the core rather than printing one?

Hi there!

I'm new on this forum. I have subscribed a few month ago but didn't take the time to post a word.

So, Thank You so much Drewseph for this amazing design. I've been kine on rubik's for years now (2*2*2 to 16*16*16 (on screen), and lot of megaminx, sperical rubiks 3D, 4-Dimensional MagicCube4D , etc).

I really wanted to try this amazing Petaminx, so after a few youtube lessons on how to cast, I ordered the printed 3D pieces. I had sanded them, but I couldn't find a place to by the material to cast the copies... I had almost given up, but finally I found a website which ship to France for a correct price, so ..
Here I am.
I will try to cast it in the weeks to come with OOMOO 30 and their casting resin.

Congratulation again Drewseph !

Good luck. This is a really hard build so if a piece comes out a little bit "off" or messed up don't use it. Welcome to the forum.

Yes, this will be quiet a journey. It is going to take you far. If you don't have experiences in casting and this is your first project, I don't want to scare you, but it's likely you give up, unless you are what could be called the chosen one. I would have startetd with something easier. But maybe you are exceptionally talented. Who knows. Maybe it will take you years to do. But if that's your dream, I wish you all the luck.

arrgh, I can't open it. It says "This file is invalid for use as the following : Certificate Trust List"

I open it with smartFTP and it's still not working at all, what program should i use or what do you recommend? it should be free because I am not going to use it much

your computer will read these as "certified trust lists" or something like that...you'll need an STL Viewer or some CAD program to open these files correctly.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=stl+viewer

I've used Myriad in the past and it works quite well for a viewer
