Not to sound negative... but isn't this a fairly simple mod? Just a little bit of truncating...

It'll probably cost about $30-40 to print the four pieces. But then you get an even puzzle. Hand-made, I'd have a hard time making something like this even all the way around on all 3 levels.

But a cylindrical 3x3 seems like a relatively easy build. All you'd really need is a compass, some filler, and sandpaper.

I would never tought that much discussion in that less time! As Pantazis said, there is a beginning for everyone, this is mine. Also, there will be more puzzles! It's just the first one Some more complex, other based on aesthetic, etc. And I think that make a perfect cylinder handmade is possible, but very hard and it's not everybody that is able to make things like this. Thanks for all your commentary's guys! ,Nikola

Are the extensions fully functioning? Otherwise I see little point in 3D printing something that simple.

That second one is a very interesting puzzle! How do those extended pieces turn, yet remain able to be separated?

Thanks everyone for your comments! Effectively it looks quite like a 2x2x6. It works like this: But for the centre I needed to use another form of cap so it can work. Check: You need to clip it (with the spindles) and glue it. Thanks again everyone! ,Nikola

This is the button cube: http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10684. It did remind me of the button cube, but they are two very different puzzles. The button cube locks the puzzle from being rotated in certain directions, depending on the scramble. Kinda like a bandaged cube or something.

The second puzzle seems like it would have 1 very critical flaw, maybe i'm wrong though.
It rotates while in the 2x2x1 position, AND the center has to be solved like a super cube before allowing any rotation.

By the look of it, the extensions will have some problems with popping/ breaking as they look, as does the prototype button cube. The STL files I have created to remake a new button cube (not yet printed) will not have this problem due to redesign I have to say, I would prefer if this offer was taken down; I have spent alot of time and money developing this puzzle, and do not have the finances to continue if I cannot recoup some money from sales. I don't know what others think? Cheers, Tim

I agree it is the same as the Button Cube apart from the lack of bandaging of the extensions - I thought so before I got this far down the thread. Are we in the grey area of a second person having an existing idea independently as Alokin suggests when he says "never seen it"?

For the placing of the extensions, There is only one way to get each of the extensions do not touch the others. Also, the extensions do not block any movement of the 3x3x3. The principle of movement is probably near of your puzzle (there are not so many possibilities to make the extensions), but the puzzle is NOT your puzzle in a stl file.

and besides, they were both developed independently from eachother, there was no copying
look, TBTTyler was the first to make a gigaminx, he based it off the eastsheen 5x5 (right?), but what if when Drewseph came out his his gigaminx (eastsheen v-cube mix... i think) he immediately offered his masters to people, does Tyler have a right to reject, after all, they were developed independently and the mechanisms were different...

I agree with you guys- no disrespect to the button cube and the efforts you put into it, but Alokin did not specifically target the button cube when he made this. In fact, he didn't even know of the button cube when someone mentioned it.
Even Tony says that if a puzzle is similar, but different, and/or was developed independently, it doesn't fall under the moral umbrella.
I can understand your wanting to protect your design, but I truly believe this was developed independently.

In fact, he didn't even know of the button cube when someone mentioned it. It isn't a question of copying or targetting at all. In fact, when I first got into puzzle building I designed 7 or 8 skewb mods (on paper) before I even knew of Twisty Puzzles. I only found later that all but one had already been built, mostly by Tony Fisher, so I respected his wishes and didn't build any. The question is who came up with/ built the design first. I don't agree that the Gigaminx is a comparison, as that is a logical extension of an existing puzzle, which the Button Cube is not. The Knot Cube, IS the button cube with different shaped buttons, granted I bandaged pairs of button cubies and Alokin did not; I considered both ideas and thought bandaging was more interesting, but it is still essentially the same puzzle. There is a second issue here too. Selling STL files essentially opens up not just one person making the puzzle, but ANYONE can then make and reproduce the puzzle for sale, which totally undercuts any sale potential for me. However, that is another separate matter. I have always tried to ensure that everything I have built HAS been in some way novel and different. I know that if someone had shown that a "Button Cube" had been developed before mine that was as similar as Alokin's is to mine, I would not have continued development, regardles of whether my idea was developed independently. But, I don't have a monopoly on how puzzle ideas and sales are conducted. However, I perfectly accept that I have no legal right over an idea, and can only live within what people on this site consider morally correct. I am not telling anyone what they should do, only expressing how I feel things have operated in the past or maybe should operate in the future. If people think Alokin's idea is sufficiently different, I have to live with it. For me, the bald truth is unfortunately, that if I cannot generate income from sales, I can't afford to build.

Ok. Usually if someone don't want any copies of something, it's because he think that it's not ok to make money on the work of someone else, absolutely ok. But now, if I make any money on this, it's not like if I stoled your idea and if make money on your work, if I make some, it is on my work, it doesn't took 5 minutes to make this for me, it took hour s to design this for me, to think of it, make plans, etc. Why would this undercut sales for you? The guy which want to make a Knob Cube, he also is gonna need time and money to do this! The puzzles are not the same, it's not like if I had reproduced your! Why is this so offending you? The puzzles are not the same. timselkirk wrote: The pieces are attached in EXACTLY the same orientation on the main cube in EXACTLY the same way.
There is only one way to put the pieces and be sure that there is no 2 extensions on the same edge or corner. Find another one if it's not true Go over the thing that there is 4 attached pieces on each faces and that they can turn, it is not the same puzzle!. Friendly, ,Nikola

Alokin,
Go ahead and sell the STL files for the Knob CUbe. This is a similar puzzle to the Button CUbe, and I can't say I'm entirely happy, but....
However, I don't want any bad feeling, and I don't want you to be discouraged from continuing to design puzzles. I have PMed you, but thought it best to say "Go ahead" publicly so that it didn't look bad to anyone else if you continued to sell.
Just remember, noone can take away your creativity whatever happens! Keep coming up with more ideas!
Cheers,
Tim

Tim, I don't think this will affect your sales. Although the mechanisms are similar in concept, I think the novelty of the bandaging and the shape of the button is very appealing.
One major difference between the two puzzles that I can see is that with the Knob Cube, the extensions are probably going to be stickered with the same colors as the layer below it. And that's the only color that will be on that face. With yours, since your buttons are small enough, you can still have the face color, plus the buttons can be a completely different color, adding another dimension to the puzzle that the Knob Cube won't have.
I intend to get both, once you start making yours. And I am willing to bet a good number of collectors will do the same.

I'd appreciate it if you renamed your "super-x 3x3x3". When I read that I got really excited because I thought you meant this puzzle, which is the super-x but done with a 3x3 instead of a 2x2.

Since the "super-x 3x3x3" is directly below a picture of the puzzle itself, I don't really see it being an issue of people getting it confused. Maybe just X-Cube 3x3 or something, although I like the name Super-X.

Cylinder 3x3 (4 pieces): $36 US Knob Cube (6 pieces): $55 US Super-X 3x3x3 (4 pieces): $25 US
In addition, there's a shipping charge. I don't know what it is internationally, but for me in the US, it is $10 per order.

Thank you Frank for these quotes And sorry for the late respond. I just want to say you that I will a contract offer soon. So if there is a puzzle file's you would like to do, I can design it for you (You need to explain the mech, pieces etc so I'll know what to do) I would keep the puzzle secret and it's gonna be confidential. Would somebody be interested? Cheers friends ,Nikola

Wow, the Slice Cube looks very complex. Very nice job. Hopefully I get enough Christmas money to purchase all these great designs.

I think the drop cube looks more like a leaf, but anyway they look fantastic and will definitly get some of these when I get some money together.
