No doubt this will bring in a record price. Good luck, Drew. If you don't get any bidders, let me know, and I'll take that ol' thing off your hands.

I see the puzzle is in safe keeping for the next few weeks. I'm wondering - what's next?

I do not plan to auction any more Teraminxes. So this is a great chance to own the very first of its kind. I hope for my bills sake, that people bid =) I've got student loans to pay!

There is a difference between auctioning and selling. I doubt he would make 6 more teras and keep them all to himself.

Exactly. This is the only one I offer up for auction, since it is the original, and first. I will offer 5 others at a later date and fixed price.

1: Lets not over inflate the price, it could scare bidder away. then again, the odds of you ever owning one are low, since I am never going to sell the masters.
2: the cats together cost $2k and worth every penny ^_^
3: possible yes, but still pricey!
4: I'm done with college, its just the remaining bills that are left to pay =( which is sadly alot more than 5k....

If i'm reading the situation right, I think an auction for the first Teraminx will be a good indicator of what they could be sold for to prominent members of the twistypuzzle community. And you're right Drew, If I were one of you guys coming up with these new, very complex puzzles, I would never sell the masters. Too much work for someone else to just buy the ability to cast to their hearts content. Your pillowed dodeca idea is alone worth not selling the masters. Apok PS. oh, about $2,700 or so.

Draconic wrote: 3. Well, assuming you had 3 workers on a $70K per year wage, with you having a $100K year wage from this, and each Teraminx sells for an average of $5K, that would be $310K per year. Divided by 5K, that would mean you would have to make 62 Teraminxes per year. Lets add in another 3 Teraminxes for the materials needed and possible mishaps, and you're looking at just above one Teraminx per week. Even if you yourself made one a week, you would still be looking at $260K a year. You could do that; you built 2 in what looked like a matter of days (of course, this all assumes that all your Teraminxes sell for $5K, and you're able to find buyers for what is, basically, a toy) I'm not saying you have to, but it's plausible and it would cool if you did (or you could just keep this one-of-a-kind and not fret with this, but then we wouldn't be able to get them I think you're dreaming here, bud. It's an incredible puzzle, but... 1) I doubt anyone would pay $5k for anything but the original, and even that's a stretch. 2) If they did go for $5k a piece, there's probably maybe 5-10 people who would actually pay that much for one unless you somehow convinced the rich and famous that it's "in" to have one 3) Who gets paid $70k/year to assemble toys? You could have them assembled in China or Mexico for like $2/hr.

Please, this is getting out of hand. Let not over hype this auction. the reality is there are a few people who would like to have this at your proposed cost, which is why realistically I'm not expecting an amount that huge. I'm just hoping that it gets a good home =)

I'll work for you because you only have to pay me 1 Teraminx and 1 Gigaminx. I'm very serious!!! Of course I know nothing about making puzzles.

This will certainly be interesting. It takes things to the next level and we will see if two people are prepared to go proportionately higher than the Gigaminx. Remember one person doesn't make a high price. I know there's huge money paid for wooden puzzles but will there be for a plastic twisty? What ever happens I think the winner will have to be Rich.

Personnaly, it's absolutely sure that it will go for an awes me price, but, even if a Gigaminx goes for about 1/1.5K$, I don't think that someone would want to pay 5k for something of 20cm. Don't keep out of mind that it's a toy (not for babies) But anyway I'll keep an eye on this one Good luck for Drew and for who want to get it. ,Nikola

I'm a Linguist, not a Mathematician so forgive me if my calculations are wrong. If this auction keeps going the way it is, but the end you should be able to get a new house, a new car or two, pay off those loans....And one heck of a lot more.
I guess it is going at $24 per minute now. At the end it should be in the neighbourhood of $344,160. Not bad for a 11 cm "TOY" Here's hoping for you....

Not sure if Drewseph shares the same position as me, but I'll share my opinion. Whenever I'm selling puzzles, I really would prefer if people did not make predictions on the ending price. For a couple reasons. First, that estimate is usually grossly inflated. And second, in my opinion those inflated prices seam to, for lack of a better word, mock those who spend large sums on puzzles.
Can we keep to more productive conversation please?
Also, yes the prices of these auctions can be very impressive, but lets also please refrain from the "wow, look what it is now!" responses. They are just unproductive, and once again seam to make fun of those who are bidding. Thats just my opinion though.

Scott Bedard wrote: in my opinion those inflated prices seam to, for lack of a better word, mock those who spend large sums on puzzles. With all the respect, there is absolutely no evidence for this. If I am wrong, please correct me. Collectors *will* bid, and will bid hard, regardless of any comments from others. I was quite amused by this thread (especially katsomom's remark) until I saw some unessecarily serious remarks. Come on guys, loosen up a bit! Just like the Gigaminx, the Teraminx is a beauty of a puzzle and deserves to have many posts dedicated to it. I am not sure if there is some fear that the price is not going to reach a high enough value. But it is definitely going to reach a super high and this is because it DESERVES it, and of course, it has nothing to do with comments. Everyone knows that Andrew is an awesome builder and there are many more (besides me) who can testify for that. Pantazis PS I had placed a personal record automatic bid which has been already outbid!!! LOL
