I am selling the .STL files for my 3x3x3 mod concepts. (3D printing not included)

The files will be sold on a per file basis with a pricing schedule as follows:
$10 per part for the .STL files. (every 10th file purchased is free)
and
Either a completed puzzle, or 25% of the first eBay sale. (your choice, if you build more than 1 puzzle)

As part of the launch of this offer, I am offering 5 STL files FREE.
With them you can build:
A Half Truncated Cube
An Octagonal Prism
A Pillow Cube
And many more!

The previews of the parts are attached as a 3D PDF file, and the free parts as a ZIP file.

Please send all orders to: puzzleworkshop(at)gmail.com
Payment will be via Paypal unless alternative arrangements are made.

Happy Puzzle Building!
Adam

the edge piece for the half truncated cube....is that the only piece I would need to make this puzzle? I was looking at the pic in the database and it looks like the corners are modified as well....but I'm not sure how....and also, (I could be wrong) but it seems that there are two different edge pieces...modified differently I mean....is that right?

For the Half Truncated Cube, you would need to make:
4 of the Corner - Triangle parts (4 corners are unmodified)
12 of the Edge - Half Truncated parts (they are all the same, just different orientations)
Chinese type "A" DIY kit (core, hardware, centers, and center caps)

Puzzlemaster,
Could you please clarify:

Are you offering the 10th part free after buying 9 .stl files, as follows from your "pricing schedule"?
Or you are offering the 11th part free, as you suggest in following example?

Quote:
"Pricing schedule": $10 per part for the .STL files. (every 10th file purchased is free)
Quote:
"Following example": ... the Egg. That puzzle consists of 10 different parts, and if you order before 25 July 2008, you only pay $65 (a 35$ savings). In addition, the next part you order is free!
Which one is it?
"Buy 10, 11th free",
or "Buy 9, 10th free"?

Thx.
Ryton

The Hex Prism 2 parts are now available. ($20 for the 2 parts) These 2 new part files, that when combined with 3 of the free ones, will allow the full set of masters to be printed.

Every 10th part is free (buy 9, get the 10th one free), and if you buy the Egg files before July 25, 2008, you get another part free. (The savings value has been updated to reflect the normal price of $90 for the Egg files.)

I will be looking over the requests so far, and detailing other puzzles this week. Stay tuned for updates...

Oops, I just sent PM, but then saw that you want email... (sending now...)

And - just curious - what are your feelings about selling puzzles built from your designs? I'm not planning on doing this, but just curious for the group...

So he doesn't mind sales, but you need to give him a cut of the first one. Or a completed puzzle. So you aren't getting the masters for just cash. But it is a good deal given most puzzle designers would take a cut of every puzzle made from their designs.

So, what if I only get around to making one puzzle? I'm assuming it's fine if I keep that, and don't have to put it up on E-bay or send it to you. Now, the 2nd puzzle, I'm guessing I need to make one of those choices (and not try to avoid it by selling it privately).

But I'm more curious about the single puzzle case. If I can't get to that second one for a while, I would feel bad if you were waiting for that cut.

My intent with the second part of the deal is to add some of these designs to my collection and to make some residual income from my ideas. If anyone wants to build only one puzzle, that is fine with me. The payment for the files is suficient for that. If you build more later, then you can make a decision about whether to sell one or send one to me.

I will post a list with the number of parts in each mod as soon as I get it done.

I just found a rapid prototyping company with really low prices!

http://www.3dpartz.com/

When I estimated the cost of printing a set of master parts, I expected them to be between $20 and $30 per part. The master part set for the Egg would cost $200-$250 for the 10 parts, possibly as low as $150 if I found a really good deal.

Then I received a quote from 3dpartz.
$70 for the set of master parts for the Egg! Only $7 average per part!

In addition, they have fast service, and all FDM colors available; red, yellow, green, blue, black, white, grey; so if you want a green Egg, you can print one.

They also offer CAD services, so they can take an idea from a napkin sketch to a finished part.

Because I found this company, I have decided to extend the special deal for the Egg 1 more week.

Happy Puzzle Building!
Adam

Just out of curiosity, how are you handling centers? Are these solid, and I have to drill into it to put screws, or is there a center cap that goes over them? Wouldn't that make for additional parts? Also, dumb question, but I have to assume these puzzles are guaranteed to be able to be built. I mean, these are concepts. I don't do CAD, but I assume you have some sort of way of proving this out on computer...

thanks

The parts are meant to suppliment a Chinese type "A" DIY kit. The modified centers are in the form of a cap that fits into the center in the same way that a standard center cap fits. For each of the designs, you will need a DIY kit for the core, screws and springs, and the centers. For some mods, center caps, edges and corners may be needed as well.

A Chinese type "A" DIY kit is specified because I used the dimensions of the center caps to design the caps for the mods.

Excellent. That's all I buy anymore. Tons of cubes from cube4you.
I'll be ordering some of these when I get paid next Friday, which is Aug 1. Can I sneak in under that deadline for the egg?
thanks.

The Twist Cube parts have been detailed, and are ready for purchase.
There are only 4 unique parts, so the part files only cost $40.

I have one question-
What type of file do you save the stl's as? Mine are "Certificate Trust List" and my computer can't open them. Thanks for any help

To view the STL files, you either need a CAD program that can view or import the STL file, or a free STL file viewer such as Solidview Lite. I don't know why it shows up as a "certificate trust list", but I have had that problem show up several times.

The center caps could be a glue on part that would be easier to cast, but would require assembly after the parts are cast, and could pose alignment problems. I like to keep things simple, and have the additional cap as a single piece. In addition, the low cost of the type "A" DIY kits make them an ideal starting point for a mod like this.

Adam

p.s. Sorry about not getting any more of the part files detailed. I have been spending all of my design time on a puzzle project for later this year.

I am not buying any of the parts, but I thought I would just step in and let everyone know that 3dpartz.com is a great site with quality products. I had a few pieces made from them and the experience was great. they were prompt and answered all emails fully and quickly. The pieces came right on time, exactly how i wanted them. I highly recommend this site and thank Adam for finding it. :D

I had 4 pieces made. One of which was very large, I estimate probably equal to about 4 or 5 3x3x3 edge pieces put together. Two were medium, about two 3x3x3 edges together. And the final was about the same size as a rubiks 3x3x3 piece. So its equivalent to about 7 or 8 3x3x3 pieces, and i paid $60 + $10 for shipping. So $70 total for everything. That pretty good if you ask me. And you'll probly be able to see the pieces i made in action on the puzzle maybe tonight if not tomorrow so watch out for it so you can see an example. I'll make sure to post picks of the masters too.

I bought Adam's Egg design, and had it printed at 3dpartz.com...

here's a quick photo of what I have so far... Note, any alignment issues are due to my lazy cube solving, not Adam's design - it is PERFECT! I plan on sealing/smoothing the pieces (especially the two center pieces) and make molds, and start casting the pieces that need duplicate...

Sorry to bump, but I'm curious how the progress is going with releasing more of these? I'm really interested in the hex prism and the axis cubes.

The cylinder and both hex prisms are completed, along with a larger cylinder that looks like a rounded version of the larger hex prism.

I will be adding a PDF catalog to make ordering the parts easier. Look for it in the next few days.

If we send you a completed puzzle, does it have to be stickered?
Also, any progress on the catalog?

I am making sticker templates to go with the puzzles (with the exception of the egg, I never intended that one to be stickered)

Also, I am working on the other concepts, and I will have a catalog ready by Monday including a couple of new mods...

Adam

p.s. I have attached a 3D-PDF of a corner from one of the new mods I am working on. If someone guesses what the finished shape is, before I post the catalog on Monday, they will get a free set of files for that mod!
