WARNING!

Some of my stickers may not adhere well on WSF material!

I don't know what is the case if you iron it, or send it, but if you do not modify the surface, the stickers may not adhere.

If I'm right this is only occurs at WSF material. The stickers adhere well on BSF!
If you have some tips or informations regarding this, please let us know!

I'm not so good in remembering all the acronyms.
I think, your thread would be more helpful, if you would explain WSF and BSF.
It means nothing to me, sorry.
Please always remind, that not everybody's familiar with all of this.

WSF = White, Strong and Flexible.
BSF = Black, Strong and Flexible.

Thank you very much!
These are very dumb shortcuts from my point of view.
Are they really common??
If not, they shouldn't be used in a public thread, otherwise it's my fault.

They are surprisingly common on the forum, as now the majority of the forum know what Shapeways is and the names of the materials.

I am quite a good customer of Shapeways, so maybe at least the hint to Shapeways would have been a help. Honestly I don't know these shortcuts.
Again: Think about people not familiar to the forum or special topics when posting.

Would this be preventable by polishing the surface with paper like sigurd does?

I think they are second nature to those who spend time reading the puzzle building forum but probably less so to those on the other forums.
Doing a quick search of Google with:

WSF +site:www.twistypuzzles.com

shows 115 results and my scan of the first page showed most are in Puzzle Building but a few from General, New Puzzles and Marketplace.

So I would say that in the new world of Shapeways printed puzzles WSF is destined to become (if not already) a known acronym.

Dave :)

Every newcomer is bound to see the acronym WSF within their first week on the forum, if active.

First day, I saw it four times! (Of course, I already knew what it was from watching for new puzzles, but still)

It's common, and will be even more common.

I think we should have a "Definitions" thread for newcomers. They join, and look at the definitions list. Then, they have a leg up, instead of starting from scratch.

I would've greatly appreciated it, what is it, a month ago?

I tried oliver's stickers on non ironed WSF and BSF ans indeed it doesn't stick so well, then I Ironed the puzzles, and the adherence is MUCH better. Do iron the faces of the puzzle to melt the residue powder and not the plastic itself. You can stay 30 seconds per face it's about enough :)

I guess, I've started this discussion by having problems with the stickers on my Mini Pentultimate:
http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=19629
I recognized the problem while I was putting the stickers on. Some of them came off while I was doing the remaining faces.
I have even lost one little triangle. For that face I've cut stickers (from Oracal vinyl). They are not so nice, but they stick. While the stickers have been on, I've applied some heat with an infrared lamp and after that with an iron.
Unfortunately, after that one triangle came off again. Next time I'll try Tony Fisher's superglue method.

Did you pass the iron BEFORE stickering? because if you stickered once before ironing, then your stickers got filled with powder and they were totally unusable after that :(

I've cleaned the puzzle before putting the stickers on, but I've learnt about your ironing method too late.
Now they are on, but do not stick very well.
The Oracal stickers cut myself stick (but do no look as nice :( )

EDIT: Do not be mislead believing that I do not like Olivér's stickers. On the contrary!! There is just some incompatibilty between the adhesive and the Shapeways material - unless you use Greg's iron method. :)
Today I've put his Pochmann Supercube stickers on one of my Alpha Cubes from Haiyan (#229 in my collection):

It looks really nice and I like this much better than Supercubes with just arrows on them.

Little bump, but good news:
I have assembled a Mini Starminx and put Olivér's Stickers on it as well.

Image

They look really nice and they adhere well.
This is what I did:
I assembled, broke in and lubricated the Starminx. I cleansed the surface of the puzzle with hot soap water and afterwards with clean water. I dried the puzzle and used Greg's ironing method (moderate heat and short time).
I put the stickers on and used some heat on the stickered puzzle. First I had tried the iron again, but this was too dangerous. (I even damaged one sticker a little bit.) Therefore, I switched to an infrared lamp. This second heating seems to help a lot. The stickers have made a very good connection with the BSF (Black Strong Flexible material at Shapeways).

On the Pentultimate I used ironing and infrared light after putting the stickers on, only. I have learnt Greg's ironing method after getting the sticker problem. After that, the stickers stay on.

I have to admit that I have got alternative sticker sets as well, but Olivér's stickers look very nice :) :) and as they adhere now on the Pentultimate so well, I have used them on the Starminx, too.
