Just wondering, is there any chance that we could have some sort of (plonk) filter that would enable us to stop watching the (pointless) posts from certain users?
This way, people who think irrirtating users are not irritating may still view them, while the rest can view a forum which contains genuine puzzle posts and not a chatroom.
Thanks.
Pantazis
PS I know that even *this* post is going to be replied by such users... (I am not against democracy, I am simply against pointless statements that waste time)

I suggest it would be more practical to implement an "Ignore this thread" checkbox in the View New Posts list and/or at the top of the thread.
It would probably be easier to implement (the DB could just treat that thread as always-read). And although it wouldn't prevent you from ever seeing such threads, it would permit you to ignore any thread based on your own personal criteria regardless of whose thread it initially was.

Threads might some how stumble back on topic, maybe by a post from a 'good' user during a pointless conversation in a thread.
I think if it we had the ability to removed posts from certain users from appearing on the 'new posts' list, that would be useful.

Well, this is similar to what is happening right now, I judge the useless threads by the posters, so I avoid them. But lately, there is just too many junk threads. Very true, but the likelihood of having something useful appearing in such threads is very small. Missing out on it is something that will even happen right now as I don't click on them anyway. That could work, but still, it would be lovely if we could customise the users we wished to view.

I only understood now what you meant by "plonk" filter, Pantazi!
I am 100% for such a possibility as I have some on my list that are totally nerving.

The other problem is that threads that are completely on topic, such as Tony's Dutch Cube Day thread, have a few users in them that just put up worthless posts.
It would be nice to somehow rate a user's posts so that the junk posters could become known.

I agree with this more. There are certain threads that just don't interest me at all after a certain point. The problem with ignoring users is that not being able to see what the person directly below you wrote can definitely lead to problems

Why do people want so many stickies? I prefer to have as few as possible. And the Search is already very self-explanatory, if someone doesn't understand it then too bad...

I agree that too many stickies would be a problem.
I also agree about search and "too bad", but it always winds up being too bad for me as I have to see all the posts of those who fail to get a result that helps them.
Until search defaults to "all terms" this will continue to happen, regardless of how much sense it makes to those of us who use it well.

The point of that question is to deter spambots, not people
