I personally think it would be cool if a puzzle building section was added to the forum. I think since we have so many talented puzzle builders here, it might be easier to keep track of all the new custom puzzles that are built that way. Just a suggestion. People could also ask questions about puzzle building and give tips there as well as posting pictures of their new puzzles.
It's just a suggestion, but I think it would be beneficial to the forum.

Check out the "articles" link on "site features"
a whole lot of info there
have fun reading^^

and check out
http://www.speedcubing.com/ton/

a suggestion on my hand is now, to maybe rename the section.
i know theres also stuff other than just building, but the larger part of the section is about building. i believe the suggestion of a building section came up earlier already and someone didn't know that the section had been there all the time

I already knew about the articles section, but im saying adding asection like "General Topics" to the forum, meaning one you could access from the main screen. That way all posts having anything to do with puzzle building could go there, not just tips on mold making processes and already made puzzles, etc.

I had thought of this when I first started lurking here. I think it'd be a great idea. There are some great building threads in this section, but they're intertwined with more general topics..

I think this suggestion has been considered before. I seem to recall that the argument previously was that it would cut down too much on the discussion in general. When the twisty megasite forums were first around it was just a single forum where people discussed a wide range of topics and it worked pretty well.

Maybe now with a larger base of users it makes sense to split the interest groups up a bit more. The potential drawback is that once you get too many subgroups you end up with factions of people in different areas rather than getting the sense of one big circle of people talking about something and that may have been the original argument against creating too many separate areas.

I don't like a lot of sections in a forum. I have a lot of them in my forum, but I did it because people told me that they wanted sections for some things so I have more of 10 sections in my forum (I want to reduce it).

But my forum is OK, people visit all the sections. There are only 111 members but they write about 80-100 articles/day

I think that this section in this forum is a good idea, this forum have 6 sections, 7 sections is a good number.

i agree, seven is good number, and as long as we dont get up to ten, i think well be safe. Also, when you think about it, the comments/suggestions, help and requests, and the off topic sectrion really dont see too many posts, therefore i stil believe that the posts would be based around the building and general topics sections.

i was just thinking that. it'll be a lot easier than going back and forth looking for each thread. there's so many of them, and the more i look the more i find :P

i agree we don't need a lot of sections as it's easier on the eyes not having it cluttered up. but it would be nice to have something that could link up all the building pasts would be great!

I think Sandy should get rid of a section if he doesn't use it. That section should be Help Requests & User Contributions. That would be great if he used it again but the chances don't look so good. People post in there for something else and not helping to maintain Twistypuzzles.

Any thoughts?

I really suggest adding a Puzzle Building section, either to main site, or in the forums. If its on the main site, maybe some forum users can submit articles to help fellow cubers.

And also most of the topics in the general topics forum are about puzzle building. I think it would be a great idea.

Thanks for that. By the way... I like your cube in your icon. That's a 4x4x4 right? Did you make that one? Is there much to building one of those?

jesus what kind of question is that... i hate you if you can even make a 3x3x5 much less one of those... lol

As to this topic, I think that a puzzle building sectionb would be a good addition becasue there is now enough members to sustain each forum and on the "one big circle" issue, even if people preferred one forum over the rest, I think they would still visit the other forums, and we could still be a big happy family with one tired mother (SO MANY BABIES)

Yes, it is a 4x4 and I made it. You have to cut the 24 edges and the 8 corners. It is not difficult to do but it can takes several hours.

Yeah that puzzle is very nice. I think we should have a separate forum dedicated to this topic soon. Do the original mod's even still come in here and read our notes???

I was originally thinking of opening up just a puzzle building forum on GottaCube, however I did not want to diverge the flow of traffic to this wonderful forum.

But, if you guys want me to set one up to see how it runs, let me know.

I'm not JIMBOB but I haven't made any puzzles myself yet. I am interested in learning how to. I think that when this Section is created it would help me learn from all the people who make custom puzzles and mods etc.

This forum needs a Puzzle Building Section... I contacted Sandy and Sausage and I got a reply from Sausage saying that we should just post all the Puzzle Build in the General Topics section of this forum.

There is no need for that. The forum is supposed to be a friendly environment to discuss twistypuzzles, not a place to bully anybody. :(

Guys, there is a PM feature. Please use it (or your email) for these sorts of communications.

Do you *really* think these posts are something that benefit the readers of this forum, or are you just blindly hitting the reply button?

The daily post count on this forum seems to be climbing but not the quantity of quality information. Lately it seems a bunch of people making snide comments to each other is a large amount of the traffic. Why would people want to read this? I don't. And the "Then don't read it" argument doesn't help me much because there are people out there posting worthwhile stuff and to find it I have to wade through the junk.

If what you are going to post isn't going to be helpful to the forum, please consider a different method of communicating it. If you aren't sure, take some time to read the archives of the forum and see what productive discussions look like.

Dave

P.S. Yes, I did consider just PMing this to the few people on this thread, but it is a problem all over the forums at this point so I thought perhaps it was worth posting for all to consider :)
