I've just been trolling through old posts on this forum and the cubelovers archive. i've found loads of original prices. My question is this: Should I trust what has been written and update the collection accordingly? Some of the old puzzles I have receipts for, or email qurchase confirmations so I have no problem with updating those.
And just for anyone who thinks Meffert's is expensive...in 1987 the skewb was $16.

Awesome. Yeah, I say update them. I'd consider that a pretty reliable source. Nothing that gets into the database is "final", since it can all be re-edited if new information comes to light. Bits of inaccurate information will creep in, hopefully unintentionally.
If people know better and care to fix it, it'll get fixed. If they don't know or don't care, it won't get fixed... which is fine, cause they don't know or care if it's wrong! Heh! User generated content is great that way.
