OK, I wanted to let Adam and Aleh get credit where it was due, but it's time to jump on this bandwagon
On Saturday morning, I get an e-mail from Geert with some amazing photos of my redesigned gigaminx (Geert and I did something similar to Adam and Aleh), though they were unstickered. All of the pieces were prototyped, and with almost no cleanup (that I can see) the puzzle is speedsolve worthy.
Then I check the forum, and find that somebody else beat me to it. And on the same day... Well crap
Great minds think alike I guess. So without further adieu, I present some pictures of the Gigaminx V2.

Very nice.
It looks like Geert used the same type of printing he did with the Turn Apart and Unscrambled which provides a totally different kind of texture that isn't exactly 'smooth' but has very little resistance or friction against surfaces of the same material. I'd love to see a video of it. I can imagine it would turn very nicely.
Is it a custom printed core, or are you using a chinese minx like last time?

Chinese Minx Core.
Cores, though not difficult to design, are expensive. I've got about 5 of the Chinese minxes sitting around, so it's easy to take measurements and save a couple bucks.

Mmmmh - the white is beautiful.
Does it move as well as Aleh's/Adam's one?

What did you do differently then the first one that you did?

I Redesigned the mechanism. It's also (as you can see) much smaller.
It doesn't move quite as well as Adams, but that's because all the parts are still in their rough rapid prototyped state. If the pieces were smoothed, the two puzzles would move similarly.

The two puzzles are remarkably similar, but I did not know of this puzzle when the video of Aleh's Gigaminx was posted.
For those of you playing the home game, this is the second time I have independently made the same puzzle as some one else, and at the same time!
Excellent Work!

That's the fifth reply to the Aleh Gigaminx thread.
So you beat him to the punch.
Congrats though. Don't take it personally either (the designing the same puzzle independently), it just means more for the community.

This is the equivalent of an 5x5x5 to a Megaminx right? And I think that it solves like the 5x5x5 combined with the metods of solving the Megaminx, olso the mechanism it the same A really cool thing would be an 4x4x4 equivalent to a Megaminx

there isnt any way you can cut a dodecahedron that gives a 4x4x4 analog
what's happening with the gen2 gigaminxs?

what's happening with the gen2 gigaminxs? Actually, while I don't know if its physically attainable, but on GeletinBrains page http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/Applets/Magic%20Polyhedra/index.htm, 1.1.10 is a 4x4x4 I believe, or its at least a void 5x5x5. Do correct me if I'm wrong on any of that.

A 4x4 version is highly debatable. Depends what you call a 2x2. Would it be the Pentultimate? The deepcut puzzle? http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/App ... eca_f6.htmWould it be the Impossiball? The corners only puzzle? http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/App ... ca_f13.htmOr would it be the Pyraminx Crystal? Just because? http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/App ... eca_f2.htmWell, if the Pentultimate is deemed the "Regular Dodecahedron 2x2", then this puzzle would look like the 4x4 version (Note: It is not fully functional as it only uses slice moves) http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/App ... eca_f7.htmIf the Impossiball is deemed the Regular Dodecahedron 2x2", then a puzzle with extra cuts would be the 4x4 version (Note: There is no applet for this puzzle) And finally if the Pyraminx Crystal is deemed the Regular Dodecahedron 2x2", then the puzzle PO provided would be the 4x4 version. (Note: I don't really consider the PC to be a 2x2 dodecahedron, because it also moves edges, it is not deep cut, nor do it's edges correspond to any pieces on the Megaminx or Gigaminx. I believe it is a puzzle on it's own.) http://users.skynet.be/gelatinbrain/App ... eca_f9.htmAnd this brings up a suggestion I've been thinking about for a while. If we have a Dodecagonal Impossiball, why don't we call it the Kilominx?

My bad. It should be dodecahedral. A dodecagon is a 12 sided 2D shape, while a Dodecahedron is a 12 sided 3D shape.

I would consider the impossiball to be the 2x2 minx. Now, to get a 4x4 cube, you draw the lines from a 2x2 and a 3x3 (and then resize them for aesthetics). For the minx, you do the same. (excuse my poor drawing)

Well the picture blade740 posted is OK, but the centers and corners shouldn't be cut up. For me, the best way to imagine a "4x4x4" minx is to take a gigaminx, remove the star part of each face, and sort of stretch the rest to fill the gap. Has anyone made an impossiball that doesn't have the elastic spider idea? This would be a good first step to designing the 4x4x4 minx (which I would definitely like to see in action ).

the 4x4 minx would just have 5 centers and 2 edges per side, basically, if you turned ONLY the middle layers, you would have an impossiball
just like how if you turn only the middle layers of a 4x4 you would have a 2x2
the 4x4 minx is physically possible, just not with an axis mechanism, maybe a groove mech like the 4x4 rubik's brand

The 4x4x4Megaminx(I call it Starminx) cuts should look like this And to work it would be spherical like the impossiball or put an Gigaminx inside it and stick pieces to it.Exacly like an eastsheen 4x4x4(or 2x2x2)
