Just saw this on [removed] . A new puzzle-[removed] cube, which will be mass-produced and bring out to the market this weeks.

Hello

I think this is the one that crazybadcuber designed and sent to them to be made. If dan is reading this, please can you confirm it?
Its a brilliant design. here is the link to youtube video.

edit: my apologies, Greg Stevens invented this in 2006. CBC's design is 4x4x6!

This is rather pricy for a 4x4x4 shape mod.

There's currently 16% of the transparent purple version at [removed] but even at that it's still way too pricey for a mass-produced 4x4 shapemod - it still leaves it at $63 as apparently the purple one's original price was $75  . I'd expect it to be something around $30 :? I would guess that these will fall significantly in price if we wait to purchase.

Maybe it's just me but I really do not see the point of this puzzle, especially at that price.

I hope Zzupler is right for the sake of those that do want it.

I would have jumped straight in and bought one at a reasonable price point. But $63!

I would have been willing to pay up to around $40 at a push I guess, but would have felt I was paying an expensive price at that. I would love to own one, I think it would be fun, but not at that price.

Edit: Much more reasonable (if still expensive) price at [removed]

[removed] has it for $38. Still pretty expensive in my opinion. This is motivation enough to try to make my own from a $5 [removed] 4x4x4.

I agree, seems expensive for me too.
If this puzzle has the same quality as my master pyraminx (from Meffert) I would pay 40 $.
But honestly - I already bought some puzzles ( I dont want to say which) around that price which nearly fall apart and with a really cheap feel. So I became a little bit careful now :-). I am waiting curious for the first serious reviews... :-)

I recently purchased the [removed] 4x4 and it is a terrific puzzle. The quality is excellent, and I would expect no less from this cube as well. As mentioned above it is just $38 on [removed], including the purple version and it still shows as $38 for me on [removed]. This is pricey, but not unreasonable like $70 would be.

For those who are interested there is an old entry in the Puzzle Museum for this going back to 2006:

has anyone noticed that some of the images on [removed] are for a completely different puzzle?
...does anyone know anything about the 'Crazy Fisher Speed Cube' that they're accidentally referencing?

I don't see what you are referencing?
Are you seeing a cube apart from a Fisher 4x4?

I do remember someone else made one to. The name on twisty puzzles form was Kickflip. Does that ring a bell?

[link removed]

if you scroll down the page, the first few '3D and Mechanism Images' they have posted are for a Fisher Axis Cube.

I was assuming the name 'Crazy Fisher Speed Cube' referred to the axised puzzle, and not the 4x4 ('crazy' being used to describe 'axised')...but now I'm not sure.

Sorry guys, but the KO policy meant this thread needed a lot of editing. Since the pictures show the internals it is hard not to notice this is using the basic Verdes mechanism (with a copy of someone else's blocking modification).

This means no links, seller or manufacturer names.

Dave :)

Sorry my poor english.
OK, I can't understand that why [removed] cube was KO.
As I know [removed] all 4x4 designs are using the basic [removed], not Verdes's V4.
BTW. I think the true is V4 KO [removed].

As I noted in my post, I say "with a copy of someone else's blocking modification". As you have pointed out (but I had to redact) this is more of a copy of a well known 4x4x4 that this site considers KO, one that was first production puzzle to have the pi-mod based blocking structure. This has its own patent in China.

So regardless of how you feel about that vs. the V4 and which may be copying the other (and it is a subject of many opinions and debate, see here for an example) this Fishered puzzle can be considered KO based on copying either the fundamental elements of the Verdes design or the subsequent pi-mod based puzzle (that we consider KO). Or both. But clearly a copy of someone else's design in any of those three options.

As such please no links, names, etc. as per our policy.

Dave :)

I may be mistaken, but I thought Verdes was okay with his mechanism being used for non cubic puzzles since he has no interest in creating or selling non cubic puzzles.

I guess it's better to play it safe.

Not only does this use the mechanism of a cubic puzzle, but it is a cubic shape too. So I don't really understand your comment

Cubic as in when scrambled it retains its cubic shape. As opposed to a shape shifter which doesn't retain its shape when scrambled. Keep in mind I am paraphrasing, but I remember it as a question brought up in a thread questioning if cuboids that use the V-Cube mechanism are knock offs. The official answer to that being since V-Cubes isn't in the market of selling non cubic puzzles, they're kosher with it.

Then again, the context of the remark was referring to cuboids, I'm honestly not sure if the same could apply to shape shifters.
