for your amusement, here's a 6x6 Evil Twin.
it's built on two QJ 4x4's, with a post connecting the two cores for additional stability. extensions are made with blank dice, sanded to size.
it measures 9cm to a side, and weighs about 715g, or a little over a pound and a half. this makes it a bit of a beast, especially as it unfolds; but despite the weight, rotation is fairly smooth. the use of inexpencive dice was intended to lend simplicity to the construction (the first attempt involved reshaping extra cubies with a Dremel and Milliput); but my quest for dice whose dimensions exactly matched the dimensions of the cubies on the puzzle proved unsuccessful.
given how prolific the puzzlebuilders on this forum are, i can't believe i'm the first to build one of these, but i can't find a mention of one anywhere. i'd be very interested to hear how someone else approached this, whether the project was successful or not.
