V-Cube 3x3x3 available from 1st Feb here - http://tonyfisherpuzzles.net/PuzzleShopDeutschland.html

The page is from my Astore and still being constructed.

Tony Fisher wrote:
So let me start the speculation again. By stating it moves like a Swiss clock means to me it's either a 3x3x3 or 4x4x4. Why? well if it was an 8x8x8 or higher the statement would most likely be size related. A 3x3x3 or 4x4x4 has a lot of rivals so it has to be sold on stuff like smoothness.
Out of the two I would say 3x3x3. Anyone fancy a wager?

Toldya!

Edit: I now believe the puzzle's sudden appearance on Amazon.de was a premature error. The page now states it is not available with no mention of the release date as it did originally. I suspect there will be an official announcement by V-Cubes in Feb.

This is a weird way for a new v cube to come out, isn’t it?

Yes, I wonder if there was an error with the shipping and they received it ahead of schedule.

I'll pass on this. I have a ton of 3x3x3s already and don't need anymore (I passed on the V-Cube 2 for the same reason).

There's gotta be a non pillowed version.. pillowed is really bad for turning. I bought the pillowed 2x2 not thinking.. never again!

Cheers,

I'm sure there's going to be a non pillowed, just like there was for the 2x2. However, I will not be buying one. Too many 3x3s on the market and until they start...I don't know, fitting them with bearings or something, I think 3x3 performance is just about at its peak.

Or even electro magnets that activate dynamicaly to reduce the time it takes to twist in half...

I agree but it seems V-Cubes isn't marketing to us, they're marketing to the average puzzler.

This is weird...
I'll probably give my try on this one and compare it with the ZhanChi.
It seems like DaYan has penetrated the roof of 3x3 quality already, before the v-cubes...

I agree, I will probably buy a Dayan 3x3 before Vcube, personally a waste of the Vcube's time. If they don't release a big cube soon they are going to start to get an even worse rep then they already have.

I'm absolutely going to get one, pillowed and square if/when available. Probably in both white and black, but we'll see how my puzzle budget is doing ;)

V-Cube Road Map, quite possibly...

2008: V-Cube releases the V5, V6, and V7. V8-11 are supposed to follow but never do.

KO makers jump on the bandwagon and produce the 5-7, then the 9 and 11. China creates anti- counterfieting and copycat laws in the books which go largely unenforced.

Later, KO companies make several KO V4s as well, along with some various improvements to the anti-locking mechanism. Verdes is PO'ed.

2011: V-Cube releases V2. About time, huh?

Well, now that 2012 is here, they have to fill in the missing gaps with the V3 and V4 before they can go on to bigger cubes.

For the record, I would love to own a genuine V-Cube 3x3x3 (no pillows, please) and see how it compares to my MF8 Ledgend. I'm somewhat a casual solver and I really don't like the reverse corner cutting of the Dayan Gohung series.

Why pillowed? It is not allowed in competitions!

Ah, so this the cube that apparently "turns like a dream." I'll hold off the pillowed version & wait for the official release of their 3x3s.

Genuinely disappointed. V-CUBE have unfortunately missed the opportunity to dominate the 3x3x3 market, like how they lost the war to dominate the 2x2x2 speedcube market to the WitEden cube.

I personally hoped that it would have been a 4x4x4, the new 6B, or an 8x8x8. At least then we would get puzzles that would either dominate the market, or be (more or less) new to the market.

I think it has now been removed from Amazon.de and shows up on my astore as unavailable. Pretty sure everything will become clear in February. And no, I have no inside information.

This seems to be strange marketing, more likely it is a mistake at Amazon.
I'll certainly buy one but neither pillowed nor white.

Although im sure i will buy the non-pillowed version eventually, i really wish they would release there higher order puzzles instead.
Like v-cubes 6b through 11. Those are the ones i really want. Im sure the next one is likely to be the 4x4. Just wish they'd try putting out the 8x8 and beyond.

Massively disappointed and angry. There's a several other excellent speed cubes 3x3 to compete with. And in the words of Cave Johnson:

As much as I appreciate that they're finally releasing new puzzles, I highly question how this cube will measure up to existing speed cubes. I always thought of the V-mech as the best way to make stable, higher-order puzzles- not necessarily as the 'optimal' solution to a lower order puzzle. It's not that I doubt that this 3x3x3 will, indeed, be a good speed cube- it's just that I doubt it will surpass or, indeed, even measure up to existing speed cubes.

I think this is really a fail. there is just no market for 3x3s (especially pillowed ones) except dayans. Although he may have done that because of the people that told him that before he attacked KOs he should release his own puzzles. I probably would buy a 4x4 though.... maybe that comes next.

I dunno if this is a good business decision or not since I suspect the 3x3x3 market has probably reached monopolistic competition so the profit to be had by any one company is pretty marginal.

It's good to see that Verdes Innovations is still in business and solvent enough to release a new product but as for a new 3x3x3, well, I don't think anyone cares. I hope than when they run out of n < 7 they will finally bring out a v9 and v11.

Unfortunately I think the novelty of such big cubes has worn off a bit. Everyone that wants a v7 has one by now and I think everyone has figured out by now that larger just means longer and more boring. I'll buy any n > 7 puzzle they release but at this point it'll mostly be to show support for the company rather than to get a puzzle I desperately want.

I guess I am one of the few that is excited for the 3x3 v-cube. I'm not much of a speed solver, and I love v-cubes for one thing - they consistently have very high quality. I have a few 3x3s already, and though this may not be as fast, I believe that this one will be my favorite, as the other cubes I have from them have become my favorites as well.

Though I will wait for the black version, I am very glad that they have/will be releasing this puzzle soon.

Chris

I definitely want a higher-order puzzle, and will get one when it comes out because I want to have it, not to support the company (indeed, if I didn't actually want these puzzles, then why would I want to support Verdes Innovations at all? Charity?).

The really frustrating thing about this, is that when we want a 3x3x3 cube there are half a dozen good companies we could get them from. Same with the 4x4x4, and with the 5x5x5. We can get those anytime we want. But Verdes owns the patent to the higher-order puzzles; no one else does. They're the only ones who can release them. We can't get a 9x9x9 from anybody until they decide they're going to release one. Keeping us waiting for so long, and then releasing a 3x3x3 of all things feels like manipulation. Hell, it almost feels like mockery.

:(

*ahem*

I do believe V-Cubes has not made an announcement. While it is possible some of the speculation here is accurate, I wouldn't jump straight to complaining about it. It's possible that it's being released with other puzzles too. It's possible like with the 2x2x2 that it's going to be available pillowed and cubic (this I'm sure of because the product's title includes "pillowed", which means there must be a distinction made). Since V-Cubes has not made any announcements, let's please be patient with them.

I'm sick of the way cubers put down V-Cubes and insult the company so badly. Most cubers, I have no problem with. Let haters hate. But this is Twisty Puzzles Forum. You have to apply to become a member. I always found TP Forum so much more enjoyable because of the maturity of members. I get it, it's not what you wanted. Okay. Some members have demonstrated delivering that message maturely, and I'd like to thank these members for setting good examples. Let's try not to deliberately hurt the reputation of one of the most precious companies in the puzzle industry.

Ever since before V-Cubes even released their first batch, people have been complaining about the slowness of the company's releases. Those finally got released and the 6x6x6 was complained about. Then, more complaints on how no one was hearing news about more V-Cubes. Illusion and Dazzler weren't enough to show they are still working. Last year when the 2x2x2 A and B were announced, complaints restarted. Then, more complaints about not hearing about other puzzles. Now the 3x3x3 is leaked and...

Do you want more cubes or not? It seems to me like you're getting what you asked for over and over but you go back and bite the hand that feeds.

I can't speak for other people, but I never complained about those other puzzles. Nor however did I ever want them: I'm not getting "what [I] asked for over and over". I'm sure there's a market for the Illusion et al, but on the animation on the frontpage of the V-cubes website, it still shows the 8x8+ cubes it's shown for years now. *Is* there progress being made?

But I don't want to be overly negative. Really, I don't. I dearly hope you're right, and that they'll be releasing multiple puzzles. And when they do release the larger cubes (next month, next year, or whenever), I will happily buy them.

EDIT: Removed a bit of my earlier negativity and bitterness.

What's PO? Or do you mean KO?
PO is shorthand for a slang term which means very upset

Thank you for explaining!

On topic (3x3x3)
I am thrilled to see a Vcube 3.
I am sure it will be of so high quality that it will blow all other 3x3x3's out of the water.
The 3x3x3 market is far, I repeat, FAR from filled.
Most speed cubers search for "the perfect" cube and is willing to buy every new, apparently, improved cube to hopefully improve their own times. It least to reduce popping rate.
This cube (without having tried one yet) will do so.

How would you feel if you could enter a competition and know that you could put all your effort into your speedsolves and be sure you wont get a single pop. I am not much of a speedcuber anymore, but I am sure I would love such a fact to be true.

On topic of higher order cubes
IMO longer solving times means more satisfaction of completion. If I know I can solve a puzzle but it takes me a week to complete it, then that makes me love that puzzle even more!
If you think solving the same pieces over and over are boring, then why bother solving puzzles at all. This is what its all about.
I don't want to push my point of view. I am just sharing.

I understand that the majority does not like the pillowed v3 cube, instead they prefer the flated v3 cube.
But, once v-cube actually release the flated v3 cube, can anyone tell that v-cube will have no problem with Seventowns on their so-called copyright ?!

Far from filled? Did you consider all the Type A/B/C/D/E/F, Dayan, C4U, even Rubik's... that's just a few types, I mean, it's uncountable.

I think the Zhanchi is probably already the best. I think there's no way V-cubes can just shoot to the top just like that, and Dayan had to make 5 cubes, each one better and better. But if V-cube only tries to make a 3x3 once and be at the top of the market, that's just impossible, and it's more expensive than the Zhanchi. I have one and love it.

did you concider the millions and million of cubes that were sold before the newer models were released?

I think it is a great shame there is a negative reaction (not just here but also on other sites) to any new (legal) puzzle. None of us know the reasons why V-Cubes brings out a certain puzzle at a certain time. Remember, they are the ones in the puzzle business, not you (in most cases).
To all the negative commenters consider this, You are in a room chatting with Konstantinos. "Why did you bring out this unnecessary puzzle now? You ask. Is he going to say "Oh no, you're right, what a terrible mistake". No, he would explain his reasons and most likely your reply would be "Ok, sorry, I didn't know that".
To me only criticisms from equally successful puzzle manufacturers or those who fully know V-Cube's reasoning have any relevance.

The thing is if v-cube really want, to attck the speeccubing 3x3x3 market, they are hitting it backwards, with a pillowed 3x3x3 :? ...

I don't say it won't be a good 3x3x3, but whyu putting it pillowed, if they want it to be a "real" speedcube. Yeah, maybe it will be a nice 3x3x3 to play with, but just a 3x3x3 to play with 15 euro? A little expensive  ?
