Let me explain why I'm asking. I have a Mefferts Pyaminx. Its just not the 30th anniversery one. So if the content of the USB that comes with it will be on the USB included (with what ever new content Uwe wants to add) on the USB with Oskar's Treasure Chest I'd rather put those funds towards a new puzzle. However if the only way to get the content that's on the 30th anniversery Pyaminx USB is to buy that puzzle too I'll likely get it. I'd really like to know while the 30th anniversery Pyaminx is still available and if I buy it and find out all that content is already on the Treasure Chest USB I've already ordered I'll be rather disappointed. I'm not really asking for a detailed list of contents as I still don't know what's on either USB. I just want to know if you need both to get all the digital content that's being offered with these puzzles.

Thanks,
Carl

The 30th Anniversary Pyraminx has a 6.46 Mb PDF file on it, titled "Long History of Pyraminx.pdf". It contains a history of the Pyraminx as well as some of the upcoming puzzles. There's also a photo of Timur's custom Gear Pyraminx, which leads me to speculate that Meffert is working on producing this puzzle. Why else would he have mentioned it on the USB?

Rox probably knows more details, but she's likely taken an oath of silence. This is pure speculation, but here's a screencap from the PDF file:

The flash drive included with the Gift Cube will likely have different PDF on it. I'm a little hesitant about actually using these drives because I'm afraid the metal backing on the plug could cause a short if inserted upside-down.

Based on this content I'd agree. I've just placed an order for the 30th Anniversary Pyraminx.

Thanks for the info,
Carl

I'm sorry if I won't answer you. Actually, I can't. All I know is what I wrote, and even that I didn't know because Uwe has the final say. Add to that that I still DO NOT have mine....

The USB. I've got one of those. My brainstick hole is sideways so I have no problem with it. Hmm. I'll have to ask about shorts.

No problem. Was was aware that it was possible no one knew. I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't asking for more then you might have thought I was. I believe stardust4ever has hit on what I wanted to know. Since the 30th Anniversary Pyraminx came with the PDF file "Long History of Pyraminx.pdf" on it, it seems reasonable to expect Oskar's Treasure Chest to have a different pdf file on it. And I don't see a reason for it to also include the "Long History of Pyraminx" PDF so I've gone ahead and ordered the 30th Anniversary Pyraminx. I got the black one as the Pyraminx I already have is white and even if I do end up with two copies of the "Long History of Pyraminx" PDF at least it will look nice sitting next to the Treasure Chest.

This might just be my favorite puzzle ever! Such a shame it's only available for Jade Club members, it would seem like this puzzle would make the world a much better place if sold to the public. :(

Anyone willing to give me an invite?

Just ordered! :D

Very very happy! Also, 100mb is significantly for than the 6mb on the pyraminx USB drive, so I expect the contents of the TC cube's drive to be a whole different type of thing.

Sounds like you have your priorities in the right order to me! Puzzles first, food/clothes etc. afterwards.

I can live in a house made of puzzles right? :?

I have an agreement with my other half. Providing I ignore the number of new bags and purses that turn up at the doorstep, she will ignore all of the puzzles.

It works quite well. :D

LOL, my mom and fiance complain about my puzzle habit. Don't forget about shoes. Women need a different pair of shoes for every occasion. :P I wear my New Balance Sneakers 98% of the time. I don't buy another pair of shoes until the ones I have wear out, which isn't often.

Let's head back on topic. Significant other's reaction to puzzle purchasing is a reasonable topic of its own, but takes away from Oskar's thread.

Indeed. My apologies.

So, to drag this back on topic again; Does anyone know if these are shipping yet? Not that I'm in a massive hurry or anything, just curious. Also quite curious to see what's on the USB stick too!

I would like to advise Meffert: When making an offer to sell a puzzle, he should be the one to explain the reason for the delay. It would be ideal if he said from the beginning that there would be a delay. I know I'm not the only one who paid a month ago for this puzzle. Sure, Katsmom did give a reason and it is perfectly rational. I would not really have much of a problem with it normally. But the Jades were also delayed long after the original purchases. This isn't the first time the Jade Club didn't communicate with the paying customers that there would be a wait before the orders are even processed and the products are actually shipped.

I do apologize if this seems like an attack. I mean it as advice: if there's going to be a problem such as a delay, bring it up from the start and be the one to say it. I still can't find any hint on the Jade Club website or in the emails why there is a wait, and if I didn't know to search on this forum for answers, I'd never have known.

There was actually a couple e-mails sent saying there was a delay roughly around the time katsmom made the post.

It is certainly frustrating, but at the same time, there are always going to be delays with a product. I'm sure they had everything in order to ship the puzzle out and then ran into another issue with the usb drive, or maybe he thought of something else he wanted to add to the usb at the last minute (I dunno).

Puzzling is certainly not a mainstream thing. If I can't go out to Target or Walmart to pick it up, I just assume I'm going to wait... and wait... Especially something that comes from china.

Usually, I am doing Uwe a favor by posting here. Remember, I do not work for him.

Anyway, I'm doing you all a favor now, and probably not him....I got my Treasure chests today with USB included! Now these came not via HK Post, but via dear old friend. I met Uwe for dinner as is our usual practice, and he handed me the box that he noticed in what he was shipping out today. When I opened it at dinner inside was the long awaited treasure chest and USB. Now, it's mucked up, and you have to solve it before you can get to your USB. (That was my idea! Thanks Dave for the quick and dirty way of doing it  )

BUT, a word of warning!!! Take heed! I start Chinese New Year Holidays on Wednesday! I'm pretty sure the HK post does as well. So even though lots of boxes were shipped out today, and I do mean lots! (over 100 he said) with China already on holiday and HK starting soon, it may take a while to get to you.

Oh, and as an afterthought, I did NOT proofread this time so the typo on opening is not mine. I groaned just as you will when you see it. I would also suguest not using teh little keyring thing that comes with it to carry it around with. I've had these before....notice the use of the word HAD. They 'unbend' very easily if you have them on your keys.

Great! Thanks very much for the update Rox! :D

I did hope that they would be shipped scrambled. It makes sense (and is obviously more fun) to do it that way. :scrambled:

Awesome! Mine came two days ago, and it is a wonderful puzzle. It was in the center-swapping pattern when it came, and the USB was very nicely wrapped.

Got mine today. Wow, five days from Hong Kong to Canada, including the weekend!

I'm very happy with this puzzle, thank you Oskar, Uwe and anybody else involved in the process. :D

Skarabajo.

PS: Oskar, I would have made it into a super cube, with the four centers having only one unique "key" pattern...

I got mine today! It looks great, but turning quality is not very good.

Question: If I ordered the standard economy free shipping to US (I placed order back in December I believe), is there any way to know whether they got out of China/ Hong Kong prior to the lock down of the post office? I dread to think of my puzzle sitting lonely in a mail bin or giant cargo crate for weeks on end.

Also, for those who have gotten their puzzles, which permutations are possible to open with? Does a corner or edge swap prevent opening? The Rubik's Bank (which I sold chiefly because it was huge and turned poorly) could be opened at any time if the green face was solid.

Do both top layers of the gift cube need to be completely solved, or are there shortcuts? Also, does the core completely disintegrate if you attempt to rotate the sides while the top is off, or does the mechanism prevent this? If so, it would make a fun assembly exercise as well.

Just don't try to smuggle dope in it. :P

I imagine you will get it within a couple of days. The 2 layers (lid and middle) need to be solved completely to open. The remaining face can be scrambled and it will still open. If you attempt to rotate the sides, they will slide around, but won't come apart too easily. same thing with the lid.

Does anyone know what the Jade CLub uses for customer service? I looked on the website and can't find it. I only ask because my Treasure cube didn't come with the flash drive. :(

You could try and email uwe@jadeclub.org or use the contact form on mefferts.com Good luck getting a hold of them, though. I ordered a bermuda cube over 3 months ago and just received it with the treasure chest even though I tried to contact them 3 separate times.

Actually both layers, lid and middle, don't have to be completely solved. As long as all eight pieces on the lid layer are individually aligned with their counterparts on the middle layer, the Treasure Chest will open. That is, not only does the lid center doesn't count but also corners and edges could be misplaced and it would still work.

For instance, starting with a solved Treasure Chest, with the lid layer at the bottom, after L2 B2 F2 R2, the Treasure Chest will open on the top layer. And after U F' U L' U L U2 F2 D R D' F' U', it will still open without a problem.

So basically as long as the UFR corner is correctly matched with the FR edge, and the UF edge with the F face, etc, and all 8 pairs are aligned across the same layer, it will open, even if the bottom center is swapped with the top. A two stripe/ two spot pretty pattern would make for a geeky way to open the cube on the bottom side then!

How does the mechanism specifically prevent rotation and not fall apart with the lid removed?

I have also received mine. I think it would make an interesting puzzle with just one colour. Perhaps a wood effect since it's a treasure chest. Without 'cheating' (see below) I wonder how long it would take to solve. I guess the only way would be through trial and error so it may take years.
'Cheating'- When you discover two correctly adjacent parts they will separate slightly more than two non correctly adjacent parts (this is quite noticeable on the puzzle). You could therefore solve a singularly coloured Treasure Chest using the old combination cycle lock picking trick. Where you make a move and check for looseness and gradually work your way to the goal. Anyone can simulate this by trying a blindfold solve (no inspection of course).
Anyway, another fantastic puzzle Oskar and Uwe! Videos on the MeffertsPuzzles channel coming soon.

There's no danger of that because of the 'rails'. Even pairs or parts seem pretty well joined so it's certainly not one of those puzzles that just kind of falls apart when a few pieces are removed.
