I guess it's about time i get on with a new puzzle.
Allrtough, you can't really say that this is a new one, it's more like a refined version of an existing puzzle.

Those if you who attended at DCD this year should allready have seen it, but for those who didn't I present you my 4x4x2 version 3.25

This is the 5th built and 8th designed 4x4x2 based on my design, so we can say that it has some history behind it.
The puzzle was designed in July 2011 and printed by shapeways in October 2011. The core is a mini Eastsheen 2x2 and the stickers were made by Oliver Nagy.

Those who have bought a 4x4x2 v3.2 know how hard it is to modify the 2x2 to fit as a core, So when I got a request to make a 4x4x2 for a customer, I was to lazy to do the 2x2 modification again, so I went ahead and redisigned the centers to fit directly onto the inside corners of the 2x2.
The result of this little change was stunning, not only did it make assembling much easier, it allso made the puzzle more stable.
The reason I managed to make it better without even touching the mechanism is because this design is depending on perfect allignment to work propperly, this is something I failed with when I made my 3.1. But now when no modification is needed it removes the risk for missalignment thus increasing stability and movement.

The puzzle is for sale on shapeways http://www.shapeways.com/model/351431/4x4x2_v3_25.htm
If you are intrested in an assembled puzzle, send me an email to olzcubez  hotmail.com and I'll see what I can do. Although expect a bit of wait if you chose this way.

Best 2x4x4. Really great. The centers are touched by the outer pieces' circles so barely that it actually is a fully functional non pillowed 2x4x4 with regular cut planes. It's therefore infact *impossibly* acurate.

I saw it at DCD (pity you couldn't make it this year), it works great: congrats!
I definitely need to expand my cuboid collection. please let us know when it's available at Shapeways.

The puzzle indeed turns perfect and much better than the earlier OLZ-ed 2x4x4 sample, which already was great.
It is an incredible achievement to make such a complicated puzzle without pillowing and without OLZ-ing and getting it to turn so well.

Saturday evening, after having returned from the first day of the DCD, the neighbours rang the doorbell and mentioned that a package had been delivered.
It appeared to be the 2x4x4.
Ola had received the parts on Thursday, immediately assembled and stickered the puzzle and mailed it. It is great that it arrived so fast and 'just in time'.

Do you plan to replace V3.2 on shapeways with this one?

Yes!

That's been the plan all the time. I just wanted to see how well it worked first, and I thnk that part is complete.
Now I'm just working on how to sell it. The plan is to combine shapeways whith assembled puzzles in some practical way.

Wow, that is really awesome, especially since seeing where you started out at. Keep up the good work! Hopefully it can be mass produced someday.
