Hey Twisty Puzzlers, Thought I'd slip this in before the end of September. Prepare yourself, because without further ado, I'd like to present: The GigaTwistVIDEO!Scrambling Video!AuctionAttachment:

The GigaTwist is a shape-transformation of a Gigaminx. It is exactly the same shape as my MegaTwist, but with 2 cuts per axis instead of 1. I designed this puzzle on SolidWorks, printed it in White Strong and Flexible from Shapeways, dyed it with Rit Dye, and stickered it using CubeSmith vinyl that I cut on my university's laser cutter. Thank you to Oskar for helping me "unfold" or "flatten" the twisted surfaces in Rhino. I will be selling this puzzle on eBay sometime in the next week or so. In the meantime, here are some more pictures: Attachment:

'Tis one beautiful puzzle you have there. Have you ever considered that there are many people who want to own the puzzle but don't have a chance of winning the auction? So, when are we expecting the BriliTwist, the Master PentultiTwist, the PentultiTwist, the TeraTwist, the PetaTwist, the ExaTwist, the ZettaTwist and the YottaTwist?

I thought there was a lot of demand for the Twisted Cubes, but they've been for sale on my shop since July, and I still haven't sold a single one. As they say on SNL, "ooo eeee... What up with that?" Even so, the MegaTwist is going to go on Shapeways, once I get around to redesigning the caps. The GigaTwist, however, took far too much work to not sell on eBay. The stickering alone took me around 12 hours, due to some really really small stickers. Assembly took 3 or 4 hours due to there being a lot of very similar-looking pieces. -Eitan

-Eitan Demand does not necessarily translate to sales . Buying puzzles on Shapeways is an event for many people (doesn't happen often enough to buy everything you want), and therefore selling there is very competitive. This being said, this puzzle is almost like looking at a piece of abstract art, and the Gigaminx is the perfect puzzle for this type of shapemod. Teraminx is too big and Megaminx is too small. This is just right

Whenever you come out with a new puzzle, it's intriguing, fantastic, and stunning. Keep it up! The GigaTwist looks beautiful

RubixFreakGreg wrote: Speaking of flattening the curved surfaces, could you make a short explanatory video please ? It's a special tool in Rhino that allows you to unroll any crazy curved surface. I think Oskar would be the best person to explain how to use it, as I've never done it before. Here's an explanation of why it's a difficult problem geometrically, though: http://www.eng-tips.com/faqs.cfm?fid=807cubedude76 wrote: Awesome! I notice some olzing on a few of the twisted sides but it looks great! That was somewhat unavoidable, since the twist makes the body of the puzzle too shallow in some places. I tried shifting the layers around a bit to see if I could get rid of it, but I ended up liking this cut-depth the best, despite the minor olzing. Thanks for the feedback, everyone! -Eitan
