Krystian's Twist by OSKAR

Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Krystian's Twist is an idea by Krystian Wilisowski, which he posted at the Twisty Puzzles Forum. Krystian worked out how to turn a tridiminished icosahedron into a jumbling twisty puzzle. Actually, his version was more complex with four slices. Carl Hoff suggested that even the jumbling three-slice puzzle could be interesting. This is that three-slice version.

The puzzle has an interesting seven-move jumbling sequence, which cannot be reversed without jumbling. It took me several video attempts to demonstrate it correctly, because the sequence is sort-of hard to remember, see and replicate.

The geometry of this puzzle is a deep-cut edge-turning icosahedron, of which only three of its 15 axes are enabled. It is a little brother of Big Chop, so to say.

Thats such a good idea for a puzzle with this shape! Is the bottom triangle attached to the core?

Wow at needing 7 moves for jumbling. Who figured out that? What does this look like if it was a sphere?

May I ask how you've proven this cannot be reversed without jumbling. Do the pieces have orbits similiar to the helicopter cube and this jumbling move causes pieces to change orbits? These things are so hard for me to see without being able to hold the puzzle in my hands.

Wow! Another very interesting observation. It again makes me question the meaning of deep cut. In this thread one of the properties of a deep cut was that it cut the puzzle into two isomorphic groups. Its not clear to me that is the case here. Yet its obvious these same cuts on a Big Chop are deep cut. Hmmm... how does one go about proving (or disproving) the two halves are isomorphic groups on a puzzle like this?

I mean both have three possible twists but Oskar's puzzle does not allow 90°-twists.

Congratulations Oskar. You keep pushing the bar further and further up as to how impressive twisty puzzles can become. I look forward to when the pyramid version (with extended tips) is eventually shown.

Digging around in Oscar's shop and I spotted the shape mod you mentioned.

I'm puzzled. I noticed the puzzle with the larger corners was $160.41 and the Krystian's Twist as presented here was $168.93. Does this mean the parts aren't interchangable between the two puzzles and the common pieces are smaller on Krystian's Pyramid?

I suppose Oskar chose not to put markup because this mod hesn't been prototyped yet. I'm pretty sure that's what I'd do.
