Hi!

Following my "tradition" of adding layers to Pyraminx, I've made a 7-layer Pyraminx. I would have called it Imperial Pyraminx, but this name was already occupied with an unpainted Jade Pyraminx. So the name of my puzzle is Emperor Pyraminx.

Now you can call me Verdes of Pyraminx :)

You may wonder what mechanism it uses - it has a "Professor Pyraminx ball core" inside while some of the outer pieces are fused to the core parts. This forms a stable backbone which holds all the rest parts.

Excellent puzzle Timur. Please say this will be going on Shapeways. :D

I would love to see how big these higher order Pyraminxes can go, or better yet, see how big they can go before they turn into a sphere.

Absolutely Amazing!
The mechanism seems amazing.
You ARE the Verdes of the Pyraminx. Nobody else has made anything this big, and the quality is superb.
Nice job!

Amazing.

Have you considered Emperial pyraminx? Or is it too close to Imperial? (is it even a word?)

If all of the edges and corners were somehow removed, could this be made into a Professor Vulcano?

I noticed that more and more pillowing is not required, because when you add more layers the first layer tends to be thicker and edge pieces become longer so they have enough length to stay attached to other parts.

Sigurd wrote:

Well, I think 7 layers is enough for me. It's getting way too complex and expensive!

Andreas Nortmann wrote:

The egde length is about 93mm. Never weighed it, maybe about 200g.

Doctor who wrote:

I'll be selling it soon, so just don't miss it.

merlintocs wrote:

It's hard! Like a shoemaker's wife, I currently don't have a Master Pyraminx and a Royal Pyraminx :)
And when somebody asks me to build one of these and I have it for a short time, I might not have the Emperor Pyraminx then.

Sjoerd wrote:

No, after thinking it over, I like Emperor better.
Imperial Pyraminx is something that among other things belongs to an Empire, while the Emperor Pyraminx is the Emperor itself!

Sjoerd wrote:

Master Vulcano, you mean? Of cource it will have nothing to do with removing from a ready mechanism - all puzzle has to be designed from the beginning.

Maybe Mefferts will pick this up before then... one can only hope. Seriously you NEED to show this to Mefferts. I'm not sure he'd jump on something this complex but it can't hurt to try.

Well, technically, once it's reached its Reuleaux shape, it's equivalent to a sphere.

Awesome puzzle, by the way!
